ALBUM REVIEW: Waves Of Distortion – ‘SHATTERED’
When they first broke through with their much-loved debut LP ‘Race Against Time’ in 2021, emerging outfit Waves Of Distortion instantly established themselves as a name seeking influence from some of the more memorable genres in the history of rock. Taking cues from the nu-metal and grunge eras, and then rebranding them for a modern ear, the band have managed to carve out a distinctive niche for themselves, brimming with thunderous moments as often as possible. And after a few years away to figure out their next move, they return with their eagerly-awaited sophomore album ‘SHATTERED’, a record that builds upon those illustrious foundations throughout.
Much like what their initial material treated us to, ‘SHATTERED’ sees them exploring more of those bold and blistering textures they have become synonymous for. With each track looking to lure you in with ferocious riffs and enormous power behind the production, Waves Of Distortion find themselves immersed in an incredibly engaging guise here. Moving effortlessly throughout its nine-track runtime, they sound far more confident and assured this time around as well.
Although not much has changed since their first full-length, ‘SHATTERED’ still manages to define itself with an explorative nature from beginning to end. Seeking out the biggest and most anthemic ideas they can cultivate, they continue to shine as one of the more vibrant names working the scene right now.
