Album is the third studio album by Joan Jett and the second to feature her backing band The Blackhearts. The album was originally released in July 1983. Unlike Joan Jett’s two previous albums, only three tracks are cover songs, though this had not been the original plan. During the recording of the album, Jett commented, “I know what’s going to happen. When we included lots of covers, people would call us on it. If we don’t they’d say, ‘Where’s the covers? Here are all of Album songs ranked.

11. Had Enough
“When rock stars gush today about Joan Jett being a ‘survivor’and an ‘inspiration’, it’s becuz of records like ALBUM. It simplyworks the sweat out of you. Joan’s getting sweaty on these songs too, which makes her more recent output seem stale by comparison.”
10. I Love Playin’ With Fire
“It only takes one quick glance at the cover of Joan Jett’s _Album_ to recognize that the lil’ former Runaways’ black clad guitarist packs one big rock ‘n’ roll heart. “
9. Tossin’ & Turnin’
“Who needs text cluttering the sleeve, when the photo of ass kickin’ Joan, with her trusty white Gibson guitar, tells the entire story. The leader of The Blackhearts defines rocker chick.”

8. Secret Love
“After two _very_ good albums, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts produce a merely good album. The first four cuts, three of which are originals, are the best, but Side B is fine too.”
7. Everyday People
“A hard-charging collection of covers and originals, including two versions of a Sly & The Family Stone classic (both of which I prefer over the original, since Joan gives it more of an edge). The album as a whole captures Joan’s spunk and attitude, and it sets the tone for all other albums produced by the Blackhearts.”
6. Fake Friends
” Some of these songs are simply lethal Guitar grenades that explode out of your speakers with amazing force. Though most of the album is at least good, the real standouts is the amazing Fake Friends”
5. Handyman
“Handyman” didn’t blow me away to start with, but when it switches a little as it gets out of the verses, it’s on. You should thank whatever Deity you worship that Joan Jett rocks this hard. Without her and a few others violently smashing down those barriers Rock might still be more of a boy’s club, and that’d be a shame.”

4. A Hundred Feet Away
“The album as a whole captures Joan’s spunk and attitude, and it sets the tone for all other albums produced by the Blackhearts. I would recommend this one as a means of introducing Joan Jett to those who haven’t heard her music before. Very satisfying.”
3. Why Can’t We Be Happy
“A hard-charging collection of covers and originals, including two versions of a Sly & The Family Stone classic (both of which I prefer over the original, since Joan gives it more of an edge). “
2. The French Song
“Reminds me of ’83 again. What a great record! The extra tracks rock too! This album should have gotten more airplay in it’s day. Get this record…it’s Joanie and the BH’s at their best.”
1. Coney Island Whitefish
“Joan Jett is a talented artist, and I think “Album” may well be her best work, it is certainly my favorite of her earlier albums. I’ll take “Coney Isalnd Whitefish” up against any of her songs. A true gem of a record. Rock on Joan!”
