Ames Window return with angular, unruly new single ‘Coil’

Brooklyn-based outfit Ames Window kick off their debut LP with the intense and intricately layered single ‘Coil’, a restless fusion of breakbeat energy, post-punk tension, and prog-leaning structures. Accompanied by an animated video from acclaimed visual artist CC Mulligan (Coldplay, Guerilla Toss), the track arrives dark, kinetic, and teetering on the edge of collapse.

Described by Discipline Mag as a “kinetic sculpture of dark synths and angular guitars that threatens to dismantle itself in real-time,” ‘Coil’ is driven by equal parts frustration and momentum. Lyrically, it channels a crash-burn mentality, drawn from personal injury, financial strain, and a slow drift away from familiar support systems. The title references both physical repetition (coiling guitar strings) and emotional unravelling.

While the track leans heavily on rhythmic urgency and off-kilter grooves, there’s also a calculated precision behind the chaos. ‘Coil’ feels like a system under strain, perfectly mirroring the song’s themes of burnout and disconnection.
