Bayou Country Songs Ranked
Bayou Country is the second studio album by American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, released by Fantasy Records in January 1969, and was the first of three albums CCR released in that year. In an early review, Rolling Stone thought that the album suffered from a major fault of inconsistency. “The good cuts are very good; but the bad ones just don’t make it,” it said. The review was positive on the title track “Born on the Bayou” and “Proud Mary”, but thought many of the other tracks lacked originality. Overall it considered the material in the album “not always strong, but Creedence Clearwater Revival plays with enough gusto to overcome this problem.” On the reissue of this album on its 40th-anniversary in 2008, the album was given a score of 3.5 stars out of 5. Here are all of Bayou Country songs ranked.

7. Penthouse Pauper
“Penthouse Pauper reveals some fine Fogerty blues guitar and is an interesting mood change. “Penthouse Pauper” is another good song, with humorously great lyrics.”
6. Good Golly Miss Molly
“Good Golly Miss Molly”, just one of the many awesome covers CCR would produce in their career. It’s good old speedy rock and roll, and the guitar work is absolutely fantastic.”
5. Graveyard Train
“The haunting “Graveyard Train” is a simple repetitive blues vamp, but again Fogerty’s nearly sinister voice gives you the shivers, like being lost in an enormous cemetery somewhere south of New Orleans in a full moon.”

4. Bootleg
“Bootleg is an excellent, catchy tune which also is typically swampy while being laid back and ultra cool. Very under-rated; few people have heard it but when they do for the first time it is an instant success.”
3. Keep On Chooglin’
“Is an mesmerizing jam, played in perfect harmony by the fellas. Tom Fogerty’s guitar, Stu Cook’s base, Cosmo’s drumming work so beautifully with John Fogerty’s lead guitar, harmonica and vocals you get somewhat swept away by its power.”

2. Born On the Bayou
“Born on the Bayou”, heavy, dripping wet as we can easily picture a lone row boat skimming the swamp water under enormous cypress trees covered with Spanish moss, trying to avoid the occasional gator or whatever else hides out in those funky places, and trippy all at the same time. John’s voice is perfect – raw, believable, and reminiscent of Charley Patton.”
1. Proud Mary
“For those who wanted rock and roll, the real deal, only the Beatles for a while were outselling CCR. Fogerty is a genius of the straight ahead blues, folk and traditional past. He could rock out mightily with plenty of ferocious guitars and his inimitable roar of a voice, but could give us tunes that will live forever, like “Proud Mary”, which would have been just as comfortable in Mark Twain’s day as it is today”
