BBQ Pope return with blistering new single ‘Content’ from upcoming album ‘UNFURL’
Ontario’s underground rock heroes BBQ Pope are back with ‘Content’, the gripping second single from their forthcoming sophomore album ‘UNFURL’. Fusing garage rock swagger with Britpop melody and late-‘90s shoegaze haze, the track finds the Toronto-based trio digging deep into themes of grief, purpose, and resistance.
Formed in 2015, BBQ Pope have long stood out in the indie/punk-rock scene for their genre-warping sound and emotionally charged songwriting. ‘Content’, recorded at Wychwood Sound in 2024, sees the band sharpen their sonic identity; gritty guitars, reverb-soaked atmospheres, and hooks that hit hard beneath the surface.
Lyrically, the song reckons with personal loss and the hollowness of capitalist ideals, trading material ambition for the things that actually matter: love, community, and genuine connection. “It’s about rejecting the pressure to ‘monetize your grief’ or package your pain,” the band says. “We wanted to write something honest, something that doesn’t flinch.”
Following up their widely praised debut and a string of high-energy live shows, ‘UNFURL’ promises to be BBQ Pope’s most personal and potent release to date. ‘Content’ offers a powerful glimpse, an anthem for the disillusioned that still manages to shimmer with hope.
