Brooklyn Doran channels queer longing and grunge-infused pop on new single ‘Nicorette’

Brooklyn Doran returns with a searing new single ‘Nicorette’, out now via newly launched indie label Merch Girl Records. Marking a bold sonic pivot, the track blends raw alt-pop urgency with grunge textures, capturing the emotional spiral of chasing someone who’s already out the door.

Rooted in queer experience, ‘Nicorette’ explores the addictive pull of unrequited attraction, likening a toxic situationship to a cigarette habit you just can’t kick. Doran’s airy vocals float above distorted guitars and brooding rhythms, delivering lyrics that cut deep with vulnerability and defiance.

Co-written and produced with Jaye Schwarzer of Canadian hardcore outfit Cancer Bats, the single reflects a major turning point for the Northern Ontario artist. After years navigating the folk circuit, Doran’s upcoming EP Sleeping Dogs embraces a darker, heavier sound, shaped by life on the road and a growing urge to shake the boundaries of genre.
