Burnin’ Sky Songs Ranked
Burnin’ Sky is the fourth studio album by the English rock band Bad Company. It was released on March 3, 1977. Burnin’ Sky was recorded in France at Château d’Hérouville in July and August 1976 with future The Rolling Stones engineer Chris Kimsey but its release was delayed until March 1977 as to not compete with the band’s then-current album Run with the Pack. The album peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and No. 17 in the UK Albums Chart. The album was remastered and re-released in 1994. The cover is similar to the poster for the 1969 Sam Peckinpah film The Wild Bunch. In the 2000 movie Almost Famous, the fictitious band Stillwater’s first T-shirt is strikingly similar to the Burnin’ Sky album cover. Here are all of Burnin’ Sky songs ranked.

11. Master of Ceremony
“At least the album ends on an amazing note with the epic “Master of Ceremony”. Groovy rhythm section, nice guitar soloing, and a hypnotic track makes it a clear winner and definitely a song to look forward to in the same way as the title track.”
10. Too Bad
“TOO BAD (The album version and the anthology cd say that MICK RALPHS wrote this song, but the original and remastered cd versions say that PAUL RODGERS wrote this song) is an excellent guitar rock song, and I love the way PAUL AND MICK play guitar on MAN NEEDS WOMAN that also features excellent sax by MEL COLLINS. “
9. Peace of Mind
“I am the all time biggest fan of all Paul Rodger’s work (with whatever band he was with at the time). Burnin Sky is the one that I love the best because it’s pure ROCK and pure PAUL!!”

8. Everything I Need
“After a brief interlude of ‘The Happy Wanderer’ ‘Everything I Need’ ends the original side one in a sort of 60s rock n roll style complete with spoken word bridge which is corny to say the least. It is almost a cross between the two Zeppelin tracks ‘Dyer Maker’ and ‘Hot Dog’ !!!”
7. Leaving You
“Leaving You” is a pretty good song similar to “Burnin’ Sky” (minus the amazing atmosphere of the title track, however, but continues onward with a pretty good vocal melody to save it at least).”
6. Burnin’ Sky
“What’s nice about the Burnin’ Sky album is that only ONE song on here receives frequent radio exposure, that being the title track. And what a GREAT song it is too- quite possibly one of the greatest heavy rock, driving anthems of the 70’s, deserving of any compilation disc.”
5. Morning Sun
“Morning Sun” is definitely a moving ballad. Really good vocal melody, and the singer really sings it with sincerity too. The raindrops from MORNING SUN that features excellent vocals, flute solo by ex-KING CRIMSON MEL COLLINS, and the 12-string guitar is also an outstanding effect that follows the repeated thunder at the end of the title track. Beautiful.”

4. Like Water
“LIKE WATER features excellent vocals, organ, rhythm and slide guitar riffs is probably my favorite song on this album. ‘Like Water’ is another song that sounds more Free than Bad Company although that is not surprising given that Rodgers co-wrote it with then wife Machiko Shimizu during the Free days.”
3. Heartbeat
“Boz Burrell lays down a really funky bass line on the grooving rock track ‘Heartbeat’ that opens up side two. HEARTBEAT sounds like MICK RALPHS AND PAUL RODGERS playing harmony lead guitar.”
2. Passing Time
“The album is an odd mix of Bad Company’s edgy hard rock songs, while others have a esoteric spiritual and at times almost gospel sound. The Burning Sky album stands out as one of my unlikely favorites from Bad Company.”
1. Man Needs Woman
“I love the way PAUL AND MICK play guitar on MAN NEEDS WOMAN that also features excellent sax by MEL COLLINS. Another Ralphs composition ‘Man Needs Woman’ keeps the tempo high for another three and a half minutes or so and although nothing spectacular it is decent enough and benefits from some good Mel Collins sax.”
