6. Venom (Venom, 2022)
“The song has some charms to it. A bonus point for pronouncing Venom with a solid sharp shock Vee sound. I suppose they have good practice from pronouncing their own name Bvvvvhhhhindit. Or is in Bun-dit?”
5. Jungle (Carnival, 2020)
“Not gonna lie, right around the twenty second mark I thought I was listening to a Blackpink track. It sounded like Rose’s voice for a good hot second. I’d consider the song itself alright if we didn’t already have dozens and dozens of tracks that could be considered reruns of the same sound.”

4. Cool (Carnival, 2020)
“Cool is the first original sounding k-pop song I’ve heard in 2020, and indeed for many months. It’s about time too! I’m not a fan of BVNDIT (yet), but I hope it does well and more importantly, We all can benefit from more original k-pop on the charts and much less copy of a copy of a copy. The music video is interesting too, it could easily be repurposed as a H&M or GAP advert, just slap their logo on the end. I was actually surprised that didn’t happen.”
3. Dumb (BE!, 2019)
“I have several thoughts about this song. First of all, I think it isn’t bad. Better than their songs earlier this spring, whatever they were. Second, yes this sounds like it could be any debut group this year sound. Except, third, yes, it sounds like they rewrote Mamamoo “Egotistic”.”

2. Dramatic (BE!, 2019)
“Dramatic doesn’t match its title. There’s little theatricality to be found, at least if you’ve been following K-pop trends since 2016. We’ve all heard this kind of vaguely tropical, instrumental-drop-as-chorus structure so many times, and there’s little to be wrung from its charms this late in the game.”
1. Hocus Pocus (Bvndit, Be Ambitious!, 2019)
“Normally I would hate something like this, being that it is pretty generic and most of it uses tired, recycled sounds. This one just feels fresh to me. I don’t know if it’s bc it’s a debut, but I’m not as mad as I normally would be with the trop-pop vibe.”
