Canella release powerful new single ‘Groomer’

Indie-rock band Canella, known for their electrifying performances and basement shows in Albany, NY, are back with their raw and deeply personal new single ‘Groomer’. Blending heavy rock riffs, intricate guitar work, and an intense vocal performance, the song explores themes of abuse, grooming, and manipulation, offering an unflinching look at a survivor’s journey.

Led by Bogotá-born singer-songwriter Juliana Castrillón, Canella’s creative process is rooted in collaboration and camaraderie. Bandmates Joe Taurone (bass), Gabe Klingler-Horn (guitar), and Dan Carr (drums) take Juliana’s introspective acoustic sketches and transform them into powerful, dynamic indie-rock tracks. Their chemistry and shared passion fuel performances where Juliana’s flailing, energetic stage presence inspires the band to follow suit, captivating audiences across Albany.

‘Groomer’ was written in 2022, a pivotal year for Juliana. After reconnecting with a former music teacher from her adolescence, she uncovered a painful truth about her past. The traumatic experience left her grappling with fear, anger, and shame, ultimately plunging her into a deep depression that halted her songwriting until 2024.

“This song is my way of freeing myself from the burden of silence,” Juliana shares. “I hope it connects with other women who have endured similar experiences. We need to heal together, and we need each other now more than ever.”
