Citizen Rat tackle inner distortion on blistering new single ‘Truth/Lie’

Brisbane punk/metal outfit Citizen Rat return with their most visceral release yet: ‘Truth/Lie’, a ferocious dive into self-deception, identity, and the blurry threshold between reality and illusion.

Led by Dartanyon Hutchison’s searing vocal performance, the track rips through distorted self-truths and mental spirals, pairing raw, introspective lyricism with adrenaline-charged riffs and breakneck rhythms. It’s the sound of a band unafraid to confront the demons that live within us all, and to make them scream.

“Truth/Lie is about the stories we tell ourselves to feel okay — even when they start to erase who we really are,” says Hutchison. “There’s comfort in denial, but it’s also isolating. This song is about being trapped in that paradox.”

With bold, vibrant visuals and an explosive sound, Citizen Rat is quickly becoming one of the most compelling voices in Australia’s heavy scene; loud, unfiltered, and unapologetically real.
