Committeemen question the grind with blistering new single ‘Old Rope’

Austin-based post-punk misfits Committeemen return with ‘Old Rope’, the second single from their upcoming EP—and a punchy, sardonic critique of daily disillusionment. Known for their genre-blurring sound that nods to the ferocity of IDLES and the swagger of Thee Oh Sees, the band continues to forge their own erratic, electrifying path.

‘Old Rope’ swings hard at the existential contradictions of modern life. Frontman DJ Gilmore delivers the cutting line, “If I came in first, then why did I finish last?” with a knowing sneer, as if asking the question we’ve all quietly muttered under our breath at some point. The track thrashes forward with pummelling drums, a wall of distorted guitars, and basslines that growl like they’re trying to break free of the mix.
