10. The Body Acoustic (2005)

“Cyndi Lauper is a world unto herself. Her music delights us and often causes us to think when we aren’t busy feeling. This album is acoustic. The bright electric guitars and horns are gone. And in place Cyndi just sings. And if you ever loved her before, you’ll fall in love with her all over again. Even if you have no idea who she is…expect to fall in love.”

9. Twelve Deadly Cyns…And Then Some (1994)

“”Twelve Deadly Cyns” is a compilation of Cyndi Lauper’s greatest hits. Every track is equally as catchy as the next. She begins with the rerecording of “I’m Gonna Be Strong”, originally recorded by her former band Blue Angel in 1980. At that time, the single didn’t hit mainstream, and the album barely hit Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart. The following single on this compilation, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, explains how that changed once she went solo. The hit singles from her album “She’s So Unusual” are extra amazing considering her traumatic events before the recordings. She lost her voice in the early 80’s, and doctors didn’t think she would ever sing again. Instead, she sounded much better as expressed. Sometimes, she’s wacky(“She Bop”); sometimes, she’s sensitively soulful(“Time After Time”). Such combination is rarely mastered so well by a musician. These five tracks answer why she deserved the Grammy win for Best New Artist for 1984.”

8. Memphis Blues (2010)

“Just Your Fool is a cute song and she sings it with just like that. Shattered Dream is a great song and she hits all the right notes perfectly. Early in the Morning is another cute and silly blues song and she delivers. Romance in the Dark is phenomenal and she is everything a great singer should be”

7. Sisters Of Avalon (1997)

“Cyndi’s “Sisters Of Avalon” proved once and for all that she is a talented Lady. Her album came in the years of the return of poppy zappy happy pop, around the beginning of 1997. Sadly it didn’t receive that much airplay and it failed to charte any single in the HOt 100, but scoring two Bubbling Under tracks. The leading single “You Don’t Know” it’s a perfect rock-track that could compete to any established rockers of the mid-90’s like Morissette or Crow.”

6. Time After Time: The Best Of Cyndi Lauper (2000)

“Cyndi Lauper had huge success for a comparatively short period, alongside early Madonna. She was always more quirky and eccentric than Madonna, and so fell out of the mass-market popularity she enjoyed with songs like poppy “Girls just wanna have fun”, and the thoughtful intimate ballads “Time after Time” and “True Colors” – and yet she appealed to many of the same fans, drawn to her catchy liberating pop songs. True Colors in particular became a gay anthem. This is a very strong collection of songs, by turns cheerful and soulful, by a very individual and unique talent with a no-less unique voice.”

5. Bring Ya To The Brink (2008)

“Bring Ya To The Brink,” comes 12 years after her 1997 release “Sisters of Avalon.” 2008 mainy finds Lauper turning out electronic, pumping dance tunes, but these new songs showcase not only her excellent voice but outstanding melodies. “Echo” is one of the best songs she has ever written, and “Into the Nightlife” is her catchiest song since “I Drove All Night.” There is a ballad called “Rain on Me” which is reminiscent of “Who Let in the Rain” with a little Stevie Nicks touch to it. Several other songs, particularly “Same ‘ol Story,” prove that Lauper is not afraid to enter new territory: it has the sassy attitude of her debut album, the soulful vocals of her 2003 album “At Last,” and a driving dance beat that sounds as fresh as anything she has released in years.”

4. Hat Full Of Stars (1993)

“This album shows a maturing star on the rise. Bad thing is that noone wanted to really listen. It still stands up as a great album to listen to…not like many from the 90’s that sound very dated. But then again, it is CYNDI! Glad to see her back again making m0re music. really wish she would put out a new album of all new material…getting tired of re-worked songs of old. I do like “The Body Acoustic”, but come on…with all your talent Cyndi…please write another JEM like this album!!”

3. A Night To Remember (1989)

“A NIGHT TO REMEMBER is an excellent example of her work as it grew between SHE’S SO UNUSUAL and today. I DROVE ALL NIGHT and A NIGHT TO REMEMBER were both released as singles, but never got the play they deserved on the air, and the album itself was not a big hit. It should have been. MY FIRST NIGHT WITHOUT YOU is a beautiful song and Cyndi’s unique voice sings with such heartbreak that anyone can relate. Likewise, HEADING WEST and I DON’T WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND show Cyndi raw and vulnerable and beautiful.”

2. True Colors (1986)

“Breathtaking music. Her voice is so powerful, gripping, and passionate. In another league from singers of today. I wish they’d take lessons from folks like this last century who knew how to do it. They’ve lost their way nowadays and need to get back on track. Less is more. And you can’t learn the beauty and grace in music class, and you can’t buy it with money. It definitely cannot be manufactured. And how glad I am for this. It comes from real beauty perceived by the human heart and mind and emulated naturally, and either it’s seen and willingness and capacities for emulation are present or they aren’t.”

1. She’s So Unusual (1983)

“A brilliant album. A couple of songs sound dated but overall, it still holds up well. Favorites: She Bop and her cover of When You Were Mine. And Money Changes Everything is still relevant today. Great album by an amazing artist and her band, it as much as I did when it first came out.”
