Desolation Angels Songs Ranked

Desolation Angels is the fifth studio album by English rock supergroup Bad Company, released on March 17, 1979. Paul Rodgers revealed on In the Studio with Redbeard (which devoted an episode to Desolation Angels) that the album’s title came from the novel of the same name by Jack Kerouac. The title was almost used 10 years previous to name the second album from Rodgers’ previous band, Free, which in the end was called simply Free. The album was remastered and re-released in 1994. In 2020, Rhino put out a deluxe edition to honor the 40th Anniversary with many alternate versions and bonus tracks. Here are all of Desolation Angels songs ranked.

10. Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy

“What can said about “Bad Company”? It was a smash when it was released and cemented the band as one of the “supergroups” of the 70s. It is by far their best album; sure there were other albums that produced some hits but I really don’t care for playing any of them from beginning to end like I do this one.”

9. Gone, Gone, Gone

“There’s also a slight disco influence here, or maybe just dance music in general. Simon Kirke’s drums are mixed to sound more danceable, instead of the heavier sound he had on the first two albums. On some songs it works, such as Boz Burrell’s ‘Gone, Gone, Gone’, which has a nice late 70’s style coke-paranoia to it, and one of the band’s catchiest choruses in a while.”

8. Early in the Morning

“The first half of the album ends with my favorite here, ‘Early in the Morning’, which sounds closer to older songs like ‘Morning Sun’ than anything else on Desolation Angels, with another Oriental-sounding acoustic riff at the beginning and appearing throughout.”

7. Oh, Atlanta

“Bad Company hit the nail right on the head with their debut album. This is one of biggest selling and all around best debut albums from a rock n’ roll band ever. This is a must have for all fans of classic rock and Paul Rogers as this is his best effort.”

6. Rhythm Machine

“They do get a bit cheesy with the lyrics in “Rhythm Machine” which seems to be a rip off of Deep Purple or Spinal tap”..I am a Rhythm Machine, you know what i mean.. Lol – though the music is catchy.”

5. She Brings Me Love

“Bad Company was the first band signed to the Swan Song label ran and owned by the legendary Led Zeppelin. Bad Company was really in all reality the only really good band on the label other then Led Zeppelin as they signed themselves to the label later in their career.Bad Company was something of a supergroup in their day if you want to call it that, Paul Rogers from Free, and Mick Ralphs and Simon Kirke from King Crimson, and Boz Burrell was from another band.”

4. Take the Time

“I was born in the Nineties and Love Bad Company. This album in my opinion is very underrated and deserves more credit. This is probably the last fully solid album that Bad Company ever made, but for any fan is a must to their collection.”

3. Lonely for Your Love

“I don’t know why people think only the hit of this album is the only good song. It’s a very good album, from the first to the last song.Any Bad Co. with the original line up is good,of course some are better than others, and I think this is one of the better ones.”

2. Evil Wind

“This is my favorite Bad Company album. Most of the songs have a heavy blues influence and Paul Rogers has the perfect voice for the styling. Would recommend this to any blues and/or Bad Co. lover!”

1. Crazy Circles

“This follow up to Burnin’ Sky is exceptional. Brings them back to the album band that they were for Bad Co. and Straight Shooter, with consistency on every track, and stands the test of time.”
