Extreme Albums Ranked
Extreme is an American rock band, currently headed by frontman Gary Cherone and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt. The band reached the height of their popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s with original line-up Gary Cherone, Nuno Bettencourt, Paul Geary, and Patrick Badger. They have released five studio albums, two EPs (in Japan), and two compilation albums since their formation. The band was one of the most successful rock acts of the early 1990s, selling over 10 million albums worldwide.[8] Extreme achieved their greatest success with their 1990 album Pornograffitti, which peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200, and was certified gold in May 1991 and double platinum in October 1992.[9] That album featured the acoustic ballad single “More Than Words”, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. 7. Saudades De Rock (2008)
“Saudades de Rock is a great album. They have managed to be unique and that in itself should be timeless. There are some slow songs that have that modern coldplayish feel to it, which are refreshing but they remain in Extreme form. The album is a melting pot of influences that remind me of Queen, Led Zep, Beck etc. Now most of you reading this already know the quality work that Extreme has produced in the past, but what makes Saudades de Rock different is that I believe you will hear Extreme in their top form. That’s right. Extreme is better than ever if we are comparing them to a decade ago.”
6. Take Us Alive (2010)
“This album definitely shows off just how good of musicians that they are. The material is rawer than the more polished sound of their studio stuff, but they pull it all off very well. Bettencourt, Badger, and Figueredo tear it up instrumentally, and Gary Cherone’s voice shows no sign of wear.”

5. Pornograffitti Live 25 (2016)
“Absolutely INTENSE performance from Extreme here, interspersed with commentary from luminaries like Brian May and Steve Tyler. But the concert is the main focus, and it’s an unrelenting first-rate demonstration of the band’s staying power almost three decades on now. The guys are as fresh, energetic, and on top of the music as during the heyday of the late 80s and early 90s.”
4. Extreme (1989)
“Extreme seemed superficially to be a typical product of the hair metal age and to be fair they did exhibit many of the cookie cutter traits of their contemporaries. They were however not afraid to explore prog or funk which set them apart from much of the rest of the pack. They showed on their debut how much of a supremely talented foursome they were.”
3. Waiting For The Punchline (1995)
“The songs are just amazing, from the blistering “There Is No God” to the angry “Cynical”, and on through to the end, consistent and very well thought out. The message works as long as you understand that this is just as much a concept album as III Sides was, and that there’s a reason why the sound is stripped bare (naked). One of my all-time favorites. Everyone is in top form. It’s a shame that they didn’t hang together after this one. Two masterpieces in a row, from a band no one expected to do better than “More Than Words”.

2. III Sides To Every Story (1992)
“”III Sides” is both progressive and retro, and is equal parts 70s, 80s and 90s. It has the theatrical flair of 70s-era Queen with Rush-esque prog rock compositions, the 80s style guitar heroics of vintage Van Halen and the decades signature sing-along lush background harmonies, with a crisp 90s production.”
1. Extreme II: Pornograffitti (1990)
“”Pornograffitti” is all over the place with metal, ballads, funk, folk, and even a 1940’s-ish crooner ballad in “When I First Kissed You”. The band’s mix of metal and funk on songs like “Get The Funk Out”, “Little Jack Horney” and others remind me of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in spots. The other big hit from this album “Hole Hearted” has a folk vibe with chiming acoustic guitars and gorgeous vocals.”
