Faulty Cognitions light the fuse with new single ‘Arsonist’ ahead of sophomore LP

San Antonio’s Faulty Cognitions return with ‘Arsonist’, the incendiary lead single from their upcoming album They Promised Us Heaven, out September 26 via Dead Broke (US) and Shield Records (EU).

Channelling jangly Dunedin guitar tones through the lens of defiant indie punk, ‘Arsonist’ captures the tension between urgency and helplessness in a world slipping further out of reach. Chris Mason’s lyrics burn with righteous anger, while the band’s wiry, melodic edge echoes everything from The Clean to Against Me!, all without losing their scrappy, Replacements-core energy.

The track sets the tone for a record that trades high tempos for deeper textures, marrying shimmering post-punk guitars with themes of global injustice, alienation, and resistance. If ‘Somehow, Here We Are’ was the spark, They Promised Us Heaven is the fire.
