Fime release new single ‘Better Half of a Dollar’ – a gritty anthem of financial frustration
Los Angeles indie-rock trio Fime returns with their latest single ‘Better Half of a Dollar’, a sharp, hard-hitting reflection on financial frustration and existential dread. The track, fronted by guitarist/vocalist Beto Brakmo, was inspired by the absurdity of receiving a 75¢ raise in a city as unforgiving as Los Angeles—a moment that speaks to the broader struggles of working-class survival in an increasingly unliveable economy.
“We wrote this song in a moment of pure disbelief,” says Brakmo. “When you’re scraping by and someone offers you a raise that barely covers the cost of a cup of coffee, it just feels like a joke. The song captures that moment of realisation—that frustration so many people feel trying to make ends meet in a system that isn’t built for them.”
