Good Music Songs Ranked

Good Music is the fifth studio album by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, released in 1986. The album’s working title was Contact, after the final song off the album (hence the contact sheet of photographs on the cover), but it was changed to Good Music in its final stages. “Fantasy” was also recorded for this album but was instead featured as the non-LP B-side to the “Good Music” single, which peaked at #83 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also appeared on Jett’s odds-and-sods album, Flashback. The song “This Means War” also appeared on the concurrently released soundtrack to Joan Jett’s debut movie, Light of Day. A video was shot for the shortened single mix of “Good Music”, following Joan Jett around New York City. Jett is seen in her limo throwing ‘bad music’ tapes out the window, as well as playing guitar in her loft and even washing her hair in the shower. It climaxed with an in-concert appearance with her band at CBGB, however, the video was rarely played on MTV. Here are all of Good Music songs ranked.

9. If Ya Want My Luv

“A really good album but not her best. A lot of the die hard fans don’t care for it as it was probably her lightest sounding album at the time.”

8. You Got Me Floatin

“The cover of Hendrix’s YOU GOT ME FLOATIN’ wasn’t necessary (although it was nice to see her cover somebody other than the usual 60s doo-wop groups).”

7. Good Music

“Released in 1986, _Good Music_ is a another tasty rock ‘n’ roll recording from lil’ Mrs. Jett and her no frills backing band of Blackhearts. Ten short and to the point songs, sans the title track, fill out _Good Music”

5. Outlaw

“Let’s not forget the wonderful OUTLAW which is hidden away on side two. A pretty decent album that’s a fun straight-through listen. But clearly the band is seeking direction, and they don’t find it here.”

4. Black Leather

“.The rap track BLACK LEATHER is kind of dopey but considering the state of the music industry back in 1986, Jett probably could have had a hit with it.”

3. Contact

“Joan and the Blackhearts know the history of rock’n’roll, and they demonstrate that fact here, with a quick musical tour of the genre that reaches a conclusion that i reached some time ago — “I could be all right if I could hear a loud guitar all night!”

2. Fun, Fun, Fun

“Joan’s rap attempt is either laughable or cool, I could never decide which, but I’m going with laughable. Roadrunner cover is good, though I don’t like the song, and the Fun Fun Fun Beach Boys cover…why, why, why???? Joan’s manager was too close with Mike and Darlene Love and Joan became obsessed with that 60’s bubblegum crap, it influenced a couple of her 80’s albums for the worse.”

I crank that song up as loud as it will go every time i hear it! This is another one of them cd for the long haired guitar rockers! “
