Hideaway Songs Ranked
Hideaway is the sixth studio album by American folk rock trio America, released by Warner Bros. Records in April 1976. The album was produced by longtime Beatles producer George Martin, the fourth of seven consecutive albums he produced with America. It was recorded at Caribou Ranch in Colorado in February 1976, with the album cover and inner sleeve photos reflecting the wintry environment. Deciding that they needed a contrast, the group recorded its next album Harbor in Hawaii. This album was a hit in the US, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard album chart and being certified Gold by the RIAA. It produced two hit singles: “Today’s the Day”, which reached 23 on the Billboard singles chart and went all the way to number 1 on the adult contemporary chart for two weeks; and “Amber Cascades”, which peaked at 75 on the Billboard singles chart and hit number 17 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Several other songs received airplay on FM stations playing album tracks, including “Jet Boy Blue”, “Watership Down”, “Don’t Let It Get You Down”, and “Lovely Night”. Here are all of Hideaway songs ranked.

8. Hideaway, Part II
“This group was destined to be a favorite of mine every since I heard “Tin Man” back- in- the- day. The most versatile and virtuostic guitarists I’ve ever been exposed to in my days here on earth.”
7. Jet Boy Blue
“Their licks and riffs are so clean and clear it’s hard to not imagine some sort of a machine being programmed. These guys are amazing and the assistance of producer Sir George Martin didn’t hurt one bit.”
6. Letter
“HIDEAWAY is one of my favorite America albums. It has all the elements of their unique style–the tight floating harmonies, catchy melodic tunes and the marvelous production of George Martin.”

5. Hideaway, Part I
“HIDEAWAY also showed a more mature and sophisticated development for the trio, allowing them to stretch their creative wings. The album wasn’t a huge commercial success but it’s certainly an artistic achievement, enhanced by Martin’s orchestral genius.”
4. Watership Down
“Although I had almost every AMERICA album out in the 1970s before Dan Peek left the band, HIDEAWAY remains to this day my favorite. The songs all flow well into each other. There is a lot of orchestration throughout the album and it transports me away into a lovely place every time I hear it.”

3. Can’t You See
“This is classic America. Especially, in a time of Disco\Dance music was dominating. My favorites are Dan Peek’s contibution’s, especially “Can’t You See”. One of my All-Time Favorites on my guitar.”
2. Don’t Let It Get You Down
“This album reminisces 60’s pop quite a bit (remember the brass driven rockers?). It’s a really good album. It’s a very diverse album and some of the tracks try to rock out very much, like ‘Don’t let it get you down’. “
1. Lovely Night
“Their “winter” album (the next album was recorded in Hawaii so can be called their “summer” album), recorded in snowy conditions in Colorado. George Martin is still at the helm here and does his usual magic. The songs are mostly solid but there are a few clunkers. Overall, I think it’s a good record and perhaps unfairly maligned a bit.”
