Highlight Songs Ranked
Highlight (Korean: 하이라이트) is a South Korean boy band formerly known as Beast (Korean: 비스트). The band consists of four members: Yoon Doo-joon, Yang Yo-seob, Lee Gi-kwang, and Son Dong-woon. Originally a six-piece band, Jang Hyun-seung departed from the group in April 2016, and Yong Jun-hyung departed in March 2019. In late 2016, the group moved labels from Cube Entertainment to Around Us Entertainment and subsequently changed their name to Highlight in 2017. Beast initially received attention for the lack of industry success previously experienced by its members, with media outlets referring to them as a “recycled group”. However, the group has achieved significant commercial success and critical accolades and is one of the most awarded groups of all time at the Golden Disc Awards, the Seoul Music Awards, and the Melon Music Awards. Here are all of Highlight songs ranked.

8. Daydream (Daydream, 2022)
“Highlight’s gotten quite good at dealing in musical comfort food – all soft edges with only a slight undercurrent of something punchier. Makes for decent playlist fodder, if nothing else!”
7. Not The End (The Blowing, 2021)
“The vocal performance is lovely. The song is …. well. Coincidentally on my youtube suggestion feed this morning was one called “When you accidentally write songs that already exist part 3”. I feel like we are on at least part 3 of this style of kpop drop chorus.”

6. Loved (Outro, 2018)
“The best thing I can say about Loved is that it carries a more optimistic tone than most goodbye singles. The percussion alone — dynamic and driving — gives the track a surging appeal that feels hopeful rather than downcast. This helps paint over the threadbare melody, which is not one of the group’s most memorable.”
5. Celebrate (Celebrate, 2017)
“The song kicks off with a keys-driven house beat straight out of the nineties. The immediacy of its energy is jarring in the best way possible, especially for Highlight. Nothing in their discography has pushed quite this far towards retro club music, and that’s a refreshing approach for what’s essentially an anniversary track.”
4. Can Be Better (Celebrate, 2017)
“Can Be Better is a feelgood party track through and through, requiring a level of buy-in from the performers to really work. Yoseob, in particular, has often been able to draw upon an unexpected grit within his otherwise light tone.”
3. Calling You (Can You Feel It?, 2017)
“Calling You relies almost entirely on the strength of its melody. Luckily, the chorus pulls everything together with its laid-back, effortlessly catchy hook, which smartly blossoms into an extended Yoseob-driven key change that gives the song the centerpiece it needs.”

2. Plz Don’t Be Sad (Can You Feel It?, 2017)
“Plz Don’t Be Sad‘s melody feels like the type that will stick around for awhile. Though its verses aren’t particularly memorable, that boisterous chorus grows more infectious with each listen.”
1. It’s Still Beautiful (Can You Feel It?, 2017)
“The production is similarly stripped back. While the simple piano accompaniment isn’t particularly interesting on its own, it gives necessary room for Beautiful‘s sentimental core to truly shine. The song may not be the huge exclamation point that Highlight needs to throw down the k-pop gauntlet, but it’s a promising teaser for what’s to come.”
