Hushtones share uplifting new single ‘Stupid Things’ ahead of forthcoming album

Rising Liverpool indie-pop outfit Hushtones return with their latest single ‘Stupid Things’, a vibrant, hook-laden release that builds momentum ahead of their new album ‘Wildflower in the Mystery’, due out 19th September.

The track sees the band blend infectious energy with lyrical introspection, unpacking the frustration of modern life and the desire to disconnect from material distractions. Driven by dual vocals, punchy guitars, and shimmering synth flourishes, ‘Stupid Things’ channels the restless optimism that runs throughout the upcoming record. Vocalist Martha describes the track as “a deep dive into our craving to escape the unnecessary clutter we’ve let into our lives.”

Formed through Liverpool’s grassroots scene, Hushtones — made up of Martha, Mick, Caitlin, Abe, and Joe — have earned comparisons to the likes of Alvvays and The Magic Numbers, praised for their emotive harmonies and dynamic instrumentation. With support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music, plus acclaim from Clash Magazine, they’ve steadily built a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting new indie acts.

‘Wildflower in the Mystery’ takes its name from two sources of inspiration: the California fire poppy, a flower that blooms in the aftermath of destruction, and ‘The Mystery’, a beloved local park where much of the album was written. It’s a fitting metaphor for a project that finds beauty and clarity in the chaos.
