INTERVIEW: Black Prussia discuss origins and influences alongside new single ‘Delightfully Spiteful’

After bursting onto the scene with their riotous debut single ‘Animal’, Black Prussia are proving they’re here to stay. The Berkshire-based duo returns with ‘Delightfully Spiteful’, a blistering follow-up that doubles down on their signature mix of punk-fuelled rage, alt-rock distortion, and full-throttle energy.

Led by frontman Tanaka Mapepa and guitarist Winston Alla, Black Prussia are quickly establishing themselves as one of the UK rock scene’s most electrifying newcomers. Their latest track pulls no punches, tearing through tightly wound riffs and gritty lyrics with unapologetic swagger. It’s the sound of a band hungry for more, and unafraid to leave wreckage in their wake.

With ‘Delightfully Spiteful’ marking a new chapter in their rapid ascent, we caught up with Black Prussia to talk legacy, influence, chaos, and why they’re just getting started.

What was the first rock song or artist that made an impact on you?

AC/DC Dirty Deeds/ Sweet Child of mine Guns n Roses.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences within the rock genre?

AC/DC, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Danzig and the Misfits

Are there any non-rock musicians or genres that have also influenced your music?

For the influences we would love to say something modern like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappel Roan, but our actual influences would be Biggie Smalls, DMX and Hall n Oates.

What is your main inspiration when looking to write new music?

It’s mostly to have a clear head, allow organic ideas to flourish naturally and not hurry or force anything.

What do you enjoy most about performing live and do you have any memorable live performance experiences you’d like to share?

Playing gigs in Southampton we bump into all sorts of characters. We love performing but meeting characters is just as great. Unfortunately we can’t repeat everything we’ve seen.

What has been a particularly rewarding moment in your musical journey so far?

Having a positive response from listeners and having our art appreciated. Especially from corners you would not expect it from.

How would you define success as a musician?

Leaving behind a legacy and inspiring others to pursue their dream.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are just starting out?

Just go for it, embrace everything, the good, bad and ugly. Prepare to make mistakes but just know each mistake brings you closer to the right path.
