Janes Addiction Albums Ranked
Jane’s Addiction is an American rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 1985. The band consists of vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Chris Chaney.
Founded by Farrell and original bass guitarist Eric Avery following the disintegration of Farrell’s previous band Psi Com, Jane’s Addiction was one of the first bands from the early 1990s alternative rock movement to gain both mainstream media attention and commercial success in the United States. Jane’s Addiction’s first release was a self-titled live album in 1987 and quickly caught the attention of Warner Bros. Records. The band’s first two studio albums, Nothing’s Shocking (1988) and Ritual de lo habitual (1990), were released to widespread critical acclaim, and an increasing cult fanbase. As a result, Jane’s Addiction became icons of what Farrell dubbed the “Alternative Nation”. The band’s initial farewell tour, in 1991, launched the first Lollapalooza, which has since become a perennial alternative rock festival.
The band briefly reunited in 1997, with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers replacing Avery on bass guitar. In 2001, a second reunion took place, with Martyn LeNoble—and later Chris Chaney—occupying the role of bass guitarist. In 2003, the band released its third studio album, Strays, before dissolving again the following year.
In 2008, the band’s original line-up reunited and embarked on a world tour. Eric Avery, however, subsequently left the band in early 2010 as the group began working on new material. The band released its fourth studio album The Great Escape Artist in 2011, with Chaney returning to the band for its recording and subsequent tour. In 2016, Jane’s Addiction was nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Here are all of Janes Addiction’s albums ranked.

4. The Great Escape Artist (2011)
“Very nice. I was overlooking this more than two months on my iPod and now I am really nice surprised. Maybe was problem with first single “End To The Lies” which didn’t impressed me but I think that first single should’ve been “Curiosity Kills”, that’s kick ass. But true gem is “Twisted Tales”, it’s so beautiful dark and have great vocal melody on chorus, really awesome song. Very good record for Jane, they still know how to do it and those almost 40 minutes flow without any empty spaces.”
3. Strays (2003)
“As a long time Jane’s fan, I wasn’t sure what to expect. After many years being disappointed by Perry Farrell’s work in Porno for Pyros & his solo project, I was practically on the verge of tears holding this very record in my hand. With Perry’s word “here we go!” on the first track I felt like the world was now right again. The greatest band on earth was back together, of course lacking Eric Avery. Even though I had always appreciated Eric, he wasn’t missed on this record, Chad’s bass work is very well done. I don’t know what else to say other than, this album just blew me away It took a few listen’s to really see the scope of what was going on, but better comeback than I have ever seen a band pull off.”

2. Ritual de lo habitual (1990)
“Now THIS is an album. After a live release and a great studio album Jane’s Addiction recorded Ritual de lo Habitual, definately their classic defining album. While a lot of strong elements of their sound was found on Nothing’s Shocking I feel they really captured everything here. There are the funky rockers (which are stronger than the ones on the previous album), ballads (such as the beautiful Classic Girl) and more amazing epics. The rockers are classic Jane’s. Opener Stop is the most immediate, but No One’s Leaving and Ain’t No Right are classics too. Been Caught Stealing is a unique song, a funky jam which is catchy as hell and other material such as the mini-epic Obvious is easily as good as anything on Nothing’s Shocking. The band really hit their stride with the two longer songs on the album. “
1. Nothing’s Shocking (1988)
“The greatest album by one of the most influential bands of all time. Jane’s Addiction made it possible for alternative fans to like heavy music and metal fans to like alternative music. This album brought together glam, hardcore, metal, punk, jam, and alternative in a way that never sounds contrived. Anyone who gives this record less than four stars should have his head examined.”
