Joan Jett Self Titled Album Songs Ranked
Bad Reputation is the debut solo studio album by American recording artist Joan Jett. It was originally self-released in 1980 as a self-titled album after her previous band The Runaways disbanded. It was then re-issued on Boardwalk Records in 1981 as Bad Reputation. The album was positively received by critics and reached number 51 on the Billboard 200. Record producer Kenny Laguna financed the album’s recording sessions using borrowed studio credits. Recorded before Joan Jett formed The Blackhearts, the majority of the album featured Jett backed by members of the Roll-Ups, with Lea Hart on guitar, Jeff Peters on bass and Paul Simmons on drums. Other tracks include well known musicians, such as the Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones and Paul Cook, and Blondie’s Clem Burke and Frank Infante. Here are all of Joan Jett Self Titled Album songs ranked

10. Too Bad On Your Birthday
“Joan Jett was pretty young when she made this record – only 19 or 20 – but it sounds like it was made by someone 10 years her senior. That’s often a compliment but it’s not here: like so many punk-adjacent albums of the late ’70s and early ’80s, this one is obsessed with the pop music of the 1960s (which Jett was a little kid for).”
9. Jezebel
“Jezebel” features some amazing range from her (in harmonies particularly) that I didn’t quite know she had to that precise extent. TLDR if you’ve heard and know “Bad Reputation” (which you have, who hasn’t?) you’re safe with this one.”
8. Let Me Go
“Great album. Joan’s vocals are, as usual, great and she plays great “chord” guitar. Some good lead guitar playing also – not sure if Joan plays the lead guitar or is it her lead guitar player – cannot recall his name.”

7. Make Believe
“This is before the Blackhearts and has a little bit of a different feel than say, I love Rock and Roll.. but its so good, you will forget about the other stuff. Very raw, and mostly fast paced rockers!”
6. Don’t Abuse Me
‘There are few surprises (chief among them “Don’t Abuse Me’s” concise lyrical picture of someone trying to piggyback off famous people) but it’s a good egg.”
5. Wooly Bully
“JJ’s first solo outing after breaking from The Runaways leaves no stone unturned, combining poppy originals with glam and classic rock. This was recorded when Joan’s managers were reduced to hawking LP’s from the back of a van after shows, so it has a very loose feel.”

4. Shout
“Of all the members of the all-girl glam punk band The Runaways, it is without question that the one member who went on to have the greatest successful solo career after their brief sensation (especially in Japan) was lead songwriter and guitarist JOAN JETT who throughout the 80s enjoyed a string of hits and a major breakthrough like none of her former bandmates did.”
3. Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)
“A classic more of the wild Rocklady. that was refreshingly different at that time, and was especially liked to hear and recorded by the girls, which you often saw themselves confirmed here in their views.”
2. You Don’t Own Me
“While Joan Jett ‘left’ girl band pop, several of the roots stuck with her, giving the album a unique sound. While I’d say all the songs have roots in girl band pop, it’s less noticeable with some than others. It’s almost disappeared completely with ‘Bad Reputation’, for example, while it’s still relatively clear with ‘You Don’t Own Me’.”
1. Bad Reputation
“The use of this song in the movie “Kick-Ass” during Hit-Girl’s gun battle in the narrow hallway was sheer brilliance, and the music added immensely to the scene. By the way, 11-year old Hit-Girl kills 19 heavily-armed adult men in that scene.”
