Lazy Queen return with cathartic punk anthem ‘Unemployed, Uninspired’ ahead of upcoming mixtape
Norwegian punks Lazy Queen are back with ‘Unemployed, Uninspired’, a defiant and deeply cathartic new single. The track leads into the band’s upcoming Mixtape: Lost, Never To Be Seen Again vol. 1, due May 30, which features newly recorded versions of early material—some of it long buried, never previously released.
Fuelled by frustration and a biting sense of humour, ‘Unemployed, Uninspired’ is a sonic tantrum with hooks sharp enough to draw blood. Frontperson Henrik García Søberg (they/them) reflects on the song’s origin:
“Unemployed, Uninspired is, in my mind, the musical equivalent of screaming ‘fuck-off-and-let-me-self-destruct-in-peace’ into one’s pillow. We wrote it in 2017, it was a regular in our live set back then, but we never got around to recording it. Fittingly, I’m back to being unemployed at the moment, so this EP felt like the natural home for it.”
The track also features the only Norwegian lyrics in Lazy Queen’s entire discography—a rare glimpse into their early songwriting days that needed to be documented before being lost to time.
“Despite, or perhaps because of, its overt darkness and cynicism, it’s such a fun and cathartic song to play,” Henrik adds. “Thematically, it might not be the healthiest mindset, and I’m pretty sure my therapist wouldn’t approve, but sometimes you gotta remember the eternal words of Shrek: ‘better out than in, I always say’.”
