Ministry Albums Ranked

Ministry is an American industrial metal band founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1981 by producer, singer, and instrumentalist Al Jourgensen. Originally a synth-pop outfit, Ministry evolved into one of the pioneers of industrial metal in the late 1980s. The band’s lineup has changed frequently, leaving Jourgensen as the sole original member left in Ministry. Musicians who have contributed to the band’s studio or live activities include vocalists Nivek Ogre, Chris Connelly, Gibby Haynes, and Burton C. Bell, guitarists Mike Scaccia and Tommy Victor, bassists Paul Barker, Paul Raven, Jason Christopher, Tony Campos, and Paul D’Amour, drummers Bill Rieflin, Martin Atkins, Rey Washam and Roy Mayorga, keyboardist John Bechdel, and rappers and producers DJ Swamp and Arabian Prince. The band has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and has performed at several music festivals, including the second annual Lollapalooza tour in 1992, co-headlining Big Day Out in 1995 and performing at Wacken Open Air thrice (in 2006, 2012 and 2016). 10. Animositisomina (2003)

“This album has a unique and individual style because of the internal workings,as well as it’s the last album to include Book club leader Paul Barker. This album is a bit odd,but it’s a good album nonetheless…if ya don’t dig it right away it will grow on you. Like for example,I thought Filth Pig was their absolute best album, and I still do. It is considered their worst album, but that’s only because it’s devoid of industrial sampling, and the content is absolutely depressing.”

9. From Beer To Eternity (2013)

“This is a monster of an album, a real return to the Ministry sound. If like me you had found Ministry had started to sound like any other ‘metal’ band then this is the album for you. Sample heavy and seriously trippy. The album has the perfect balance of acknowledging their history but also being relevant for now. If you are a Rocky fan it’s like watching Rocky Balboa or Creed and thinking wow, they turned it around at the end!”

8. Dark Side Of The Spoon (1999)

“This is one of the more controversial Ministry albums in that it is much slower and contains fewer harsher elements. Its not a bad album, in that it contains a lot of good songs and its great to see Al and the gang trying new things. This album along with Filth Pig, really alienated the Ministry fanbase (might be what they were going for)”

7. In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up (1990)

“This is an awesome compilation. I’ve been a casual fan of Uncle Al for some time and Ministry has never disappointed. I can’t say the same for RevCo, Lard, and SMM. In any event, the production sounds great and the track selections are strong. “

6. Filth Pig (1996)

“This album here is a seriously heavy, slow grinding album of absolute self hatred and complete lack of any sunshine. You can really hear how much Al hated himself & the people around him and in his life at the time.this album is very negative & depressing, but I think it’s absolutely genius and beautiful. “

5. With Sympathy (1983)

” I think “With Sympathy” is like the dark, brooding, neglected cousin of albums from Depeche Mode, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, or Erasure. And frankly I find that it’s a quite good effort in the synth-pop realm. I also think it’s a testament to Al’s skills to be able to record such a quality album in a genre that he didn’t even like.”

4. Twitch (1986)

“This is the start to the progression of industrial metal from Uncle Al, taking the band in a heavier direction, taking it from the days of synth pop & almost disco- techno (which I also enjoy) but man, this is just a killer groove from start to finish. Starting with the sweet intro Just Like You,talking about the politricks that run our world. The song is just cool, driving rhythmic beats and sweet drum patterns. The track All Day (original & remix) are both sweet, spacy and catchy, remaining 1 of my favorite songs throughout the entire catalogue of Ministry”

3. The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste (1989)

“All you would expect from this genre of music the heavy drums the stabbing keyboard’s and loud qiutars mixed with sampling the vocals and songs that really hit the mark like THIEVES or BURNING INSIDE Sometimes the sound is harsh other times melodic but always atmospheric with a good balance of songs with alternating tones and mood that keep you listening intently from start to finish well worth listening to and appreciating”

2. The Land Of Rape And Honey (1988)

“he Land’s self-titled track & Stigmata are 2 songs that stand out with this album I’m particular. Destruction is another sample thick noisemaker with a rhythm & Patten tightness. Abortive is another song that’s faster-paced with a flashback, just like with Stigmata. Diety is another track that was played a lot during live sets at this point in the band’s career cuz its energy shaking. This album is a ruthless assault on the senses, for metalheads, industrialists, or just into fast-paced speed, party music..check this baby out.ya won’t be disappointed”

1. Psalm 69: The Way To Succeed And The Way To Suck Eggs (1992)

“This album is the type that is so direct and truthful that it scares you. It certainly scared me as a teenager. It felt subversive it was subversive. I felt naughty in a good way while listening to it but didn’t fully appreciate the album at the time despite knowing it was good. After all this album existed and competed in a world of U2 and REM and the beginning of whine rock.”
