10. Twist of Fate (Two of a Kind, 1983)

“A great piece of 80s pop, wrapped in leg warmers and bathed in neon. Olivia Newton-John isn’t exactly a vocal powerhouse, but that actually works in her favor on this song; the brittleness of her vocals emphasize the pop of the chorus, and when it goes soft and floaty in the bridge it’s as convincing as she’s ever sounded. The “life doesn’t mean a thing” melody is just the tops.”

9. If You Love Me (Let Me Know) (If You Love Me, Let Me Know, 1974)

“Olivia is way better than any artist on the radio these days! This was when artists actually had talent and sang with their voices, not auto tuned to hell and back.”

8. Suddenly (Suddenly, 1980)

“As a former mid-late period Shadow and songwriter and producer-in-chief for ON-J, it was inevitable that John Farrar would combine his two stars in a duet. And a very nice, lilting ballad he gives them, produced with typical 80’s synthy-smoothness.”

7. Xanadu (Xanadu, 1980)

“Xanadu the film was a bit of a mess. A musical sci-fi odyssey set in modern LA and featuring the Greek muses and Gene Kelly, it was a critical bomb and only just made its budget back. Still, it has become a cult film and the film’s soundtrack was a winner straight out of the gate, topping charts all around the world.”

6. Have You Never Been Mellow (Have You Never Been Mellow, 1975)

“Of all of Olivia Newton-John’s #1 hits, I think I can understand and tolerate this one the most. The melody is pretty good, if a bit too cheesy for my taste, and it does seem to capture the ethos of Olivia Newton-John’s career the best. I can empathize with the desire to write a song about wanting to let all stresses fall away and simply chill with the music.”

5. Landslide (Physical, 1981)

“Olivia shows the wannabe’s of today how it should be done. her voice is so silky smooth she could sing the phonebook & it would still be ten times better than the dross that is being fed to us nowadays.”

4. You’re the One that I Want (Grease, 1978)

“Displaying the emergence from her chrysalis, from poodle skirt to leather pants… and travolta hangs with her vocally. Classical and beatiful song from the grease movie, good and professional concert facility for olivia newton john in future, could be horsens music art city in Denmark.”

3. I Honestly Love You (If You Love Me, Let Me Know, 1974)

“A pleasant if overly soft ballad that ONJ does a good job of selling. She actually sounds like a woman in love who ain’t supposed to be. That said, I have no idea why this song returned to the charts twice after this, most recently in the mid 90s.”

2. Magic (Xanadu, 1980)

“It’s a great song and a perfect song at that! She has the voice of an angel and the looks to go with it! Olivia is fantastic! This has to rank up there with the classic pop of ABBA, Kylie Minogue, Bee Gees, etc. as one of the greatest pop songs.”

1. Physical (Physical, 1981)

“Everyone’s sayin’ that Xanadu is the most beautiful song by her but that doesn’t made it a better song than this one. I think this is even perfect, not the usual 80s song you wanna hear all day but is definitely a catchy and stunning song just for its time.”
