Orlando’s Cat Ridgeway delivers anthemic new single ‘Sprinter’
Orlando-based singer-songwriter Cat Ridgeway continues to captivate audiences with her unique blend of indie-rock, punk, dream-pop, and folk. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist and synesthete, Ridgeway’s music is as vibrant and dynamic as her personality. Now, she’s ready to share her deeply personal new single ‘Sprinter’, and delve into the emotional journey that inspired her forthcoming album of the same name.
The title-track ‘Sprinter’ reflects Ridgeway’s reckoning with the fragility of life and the often-hidden struggles of mental health. Written as a way to process the sudden loss of a close friend to depression, the poignant song uses the metaphor of ignoring a car’s “check engine” light to explore how mental health is often overlooked until it’s too late.
“When my friend lost her battle to depression, we were all shocked,” Ridgeway shares. “Mental health so often gets treated like a nuisance, something to be ignored or hidden. Most anyone who’s lost someone to it will tell you they never saw it coming.”
