Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – ‘Land Of Sleeper’
For the last few decades, Australia seemed to have a monopoly on the world’s psych-rock stage. Bands like Tame Impala, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Pond, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and many more were seen as the flag-bearers for the genre on an international level, that was until Newcastle’s Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs got involved. Since first emerging with their breakthrough debut LP ‘Feed The Rats’ in 2017, they have been quickly rising the ranks within the scene, and showcasing the British flair for the sound throughout. And after a few years since their highly-praised full-length ‘Viscerals’ in 2020, they are back with their fourth full-length ‘Land Of Sleeper’, a record that looks to build upon their frenzied direction to date.
While Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs have found themselves within a psych-rock guise throughout their career, much of their sound can also be attributed to punk and metal influences, and this is exactly what they look to highlight on ‘Land Of Sleeper’. While each of the eight tracks amongst this new collection usually stretch beyond the five minute mark, these lengthier offerings give the band a chance to explore some of their more progressive ideals as well, making for an incredibly dense and driven release, brimming with raw and unbridled energy from start to finish.
Although its runtime could have maybe been refined or shortened in places, ‘Land Of Sleeper’ still makes for a wildly vivid and adventurous collection. Continuing their pursuit of broad and immersive flavours throughout, they are bringing something new and distinctive to the fold once again here.
