REVIEW: CuVa Bimö – ‘CB Radio’
Over the past year, Bay Area rockers CuVa Bimö have been pouring their hearts into crafting a sound that is uniquely and unmistakably their own. Drawing on the raw, unrelenting energy of icons like Sonic Youth while infusing it with their own fiery grit, the four-piece have been on a relentless journey of growth and discovery. With each electrifying release, they’ve shattered expectations, earning widespread acclaim for their bold, unapologetic artistry. Now, with their highly anticipated debut album ‘CB Radio’, they are poised to carve their place in the modern rock scene—a sonic manifesto bursting with passion, flair, and the unyielding spirit that defines who they are.
Right from the off, ‘CB Radio’ looks to present itself as a raw yet refined homage to the more intense side of the grunge era. Mixing these rich and thunderous guitar hooks with an organic approach to their production, this eleven-track collection makes for a brilliantly bold and immersive introduction to their direction so far. With tracks like ‘Wasting Time’ showcasing their ferocity, leaving songs such as ‘Bad Jacket’ and ‘Workhorse’ to explore more groove-laden expeditions, CuVa Bimö break onto the scene with a truly fresh and enjoyable initial full-length here.
It may still be early days for them right now, but ‘CB Radio’ has all the hallmarks of a band ready to bring some new and interesting to the modern alt-rock arena. Recorded by Kevin O’Connell of The Strange Ones and brimming with these broad and atmospheric moments, which would no doubt explode during a live performance, CuVa Bimö are certainly a name worth keeping a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
