REVIEW: Dreamer Dreamer – ‘New Face’

Throughout this past year, Vienna’s Hannes Pröstler has looked to make his Dreamer Dreamer project a monolith of modern rock excellence. Taking his cues from a whole host of adjacent genres, such as spacegrunge, shoegaze, and pop-punk, his tenure to date has been this wildly explorative one that looks to its nostalgic heyday as much as it does towards a forward-thinking endeavour. And with a flurry of impactful offerings under his belt already, he is now cementing his dynamic legacy to date with the release of his eagerly-awaited debut album ‘New Face’, a record that elevates his passionate direction to date.

Described as a concept album about the healing process he went through after the breakup of a toxic relationship, ‘New Face’ has this incredibly raw and emotive texture to it. Creating this beautifully woven ebb and flow between the tracks, giving each their own moment to shine, his initial full-length makes for a brilliantly bold and anthemic listen throughout. Whether he is exploding outward with sheer energy or looking to pursue a more sombre aesthetic, he always manages to create this absorbing feel that stretches the length of this new LP.

He may have only just gotten his new project off the ground, but it is clear that Dreamer Dreamer isn’t one to sleep on. Capturing a mixture of uplifting hooks and rapturous riffs as often as possible, ‘New Face’ establishes the frontman as one of the more exciting names emerging on today’s alt-rock scene.
