REVIEW: Hurikanes – ‘You’re Ruining My Life But Make My Day’

Over these last few months, emerging outfit Hurikanes have been building a distinctive direction to call their own. Exploring the multitude of dynamic aesthetics the rock genre has to offer, the band have been quick to cement a raw and rustic sound that perfectly suits their DIY ambitions they have cultivated recently. And after plenty of buzz surrounding them in recent times, they are now looking to cement their legacy to date with the release of their eagerly-awaited debut EP ‘You’re Running My Life But Make My Day’, a collection that introduces their enigmatic style so far.

Focusing much of the release around its emotive guitar playing certainly gives it an incredibly absorbing feel. Described as an ode to wasted youth, ‘You’re Running My Life But Make My Day’ has this incredibly broad and alluring appeal to it. Keeping the sound of the record as brash and earthy as possible, Hurikanes look to make a grand entrance with this rich and riveting opening array of jams.

It may be their only piece of new material to date, but ‘You’re Running My Life But Make My Day’ feels like a solid foundation of ideas and concepts in which to work from. Its unpolished style only adds to the immersive direction it has taken, and leaves us with a brilliantly warm and passionate feeling throughout.
