REVIEW: Katharein – ‘Lucky Shots’
Over this past year, Romanian outfit Katharein have been busy carving a bold and distinctive direction in which to call their own. Taking their cues from the likes of classic rock heavyweights Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, encapsulated by their recent video for ‘Alders Alley’, the band have been establishing their place on the scene with a flurry of impactful efforts in recent months, churning out something new every few weeks. And after plenty of praise and acclaim for their run of releases to date, they now return with their eagerly-awaited debut album ‘Lucky Shots’, a record that brings all of that tenacious power under one roof.
Much like what their previous releases introduced us to, ‘Lucky Shots’ is this rip-roaring, balls-to-the-walls rock record, oozing with sheer venom and gusto. Keeping the flow and momentum behind the release moving as fast as possible with its uncompromising pace, this thirteen track collection throws caution to the wind as they look to unleash some of their more anthemic offerings yet. With the opener ‘One Sided Dice’ showing just as much flair and spirit as its titular closer, Katharein instantly make a name for themselves as one of the more exciting names on the rise with this one.
While these last few months have certainly been a busy and productive time for them, ‘Lucky Shots’ shows they are brimming with this insatiable flair for big riffs and even bigger production. Delivering this thunderous array of belters as often as possible, they are definitely ones to keep a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
