REVIEW: Midnight Zephyr – ‘Tonight’
Over the last few years, Sydney’s Midnight Zephyr have been spending much of their time crafting a distinctive direction for themselves. Taking cues from everything between the pop-punk and alt-pop spectrums, they have been busy establishing their place on the scene, one that is known for raw and raucous anthems as often as possible. And after a flurry of impactful offerings these last few years, they are now looking to cement their dynamic legacy to date with the release of their eagerly-awaited debut EP ‘Tonight’, a release that looks to make a long and lasting impression.
Featuring the previously shared gems ‘One Step (At A Time)’ and its riveting title-track, ‘Tonight’ erupts out of the gates with all the flair and finesse they have been growing recently. While its opening number ‘This Is Where We End’ sets up this broad and driven collection, the EP quickly shifts gears between each of the four tracks, making for a wildly diverse listen. Continuing that explorative nature they have been cultivating since their earliest beginnings, ‘Tonight’ brings fun and adventure to their sound, delivering some brilliantly infectious grooves as it plays.
It may only be their first full collection of tracks to date, but ‘Tonight’ sets Midnight Zephyr as a wildly innovative group. Never looking to tread the same path twice, they are introducing the world to their explorative ways, something that will no doubt serve them extremely well in the years ahead as well.
