REVIEW: Najar – ‘Cycles Of Light’

Throughout last year, emerging outfit Najar established themselves as one of the more distinctive names emerging on the scene. With a sound rooted in Middle Eastern influences alongside nods to the 90s grunge and prog-rock icons of their heyday, the band spent much of 2023 introducing the world to their broad and emotive take on the alt-rock genre. And after plenty of praise and acclaim for their recent anthems, they now look to cement their dynamic legacy to date with their highly-anticipated debut album ‘Cycles Of Light’, a record that shines with passion and inventive spirit throughout.

Much like what those earlier works introduced us to, ‘Cycles Of Light’ sees them harness this raw and euphoric edge across all of its eight tracks. With lead singer Noam Najar capturing his inner Chris Cornell throughout this new outing, the band look to take the anthemic nature of their heroes and rebrand them for a modern ear. The result is this wildly adventurous and expansive listen that continues Najar’s progressive ascent to date, building upon those vibrant foundations they have been busy cultivating.

It may still be early days for them right now, but ‘Cycles Of Light’ already showcases some brilliantly warm and inviting textures as it plays. With one foot in their retrospective inspirations and one seeking a more forward-thinking ambition, Najar make their mark as a true innovators rising through the ranks with this one.
