REVIEW: Neomantra – ‘Paranosis’
Ever since they first emerged, Australian doom metal outfit Neomantra have always looked to adopt a grittier and more earthy sound than many of their peers. Creating this incredibly dark and thunderous aesthetic with everything they do, their tenure to date has seen them deliver a truly absorbing array of captivating anthems, bringing a deeper and more intense direction with everything they do. And after returning earlier this year with their brilliant comeback single ‘Astral Prison’, they are back with their new EP ‘Paranosis’, a release that finds them in their most innovative guise yet.
Closing the ouroboros that had begun with their previous EP ‘Henosis’, their newest collection sees them explore the functions of the universe and the great ascension with flair and almighty gusto at every turn. While just five tracks in length, the band add this raw and truly euphoric edge to each and every track, giving it this incredibly larger-than-life sound. Venturing towards a progressive path at times, as it takes on different paces and aesthetics as it plays, ‘Paranosis’ is one of those releases you instantly need to start listening to again once it has finished playing.
While there have been many great metal bands emerging from Australia in recent years, very few have made such an impactful impression on us like Neomantra. There is something so brilliantly compelling about their sound, and ‘Paranosis’ sits as a true gem within their ever-evolving catalogue to date.
