REVIEW: Split From The Mind – ‘Split From The Mind’
Bridging the gap between industrial grit and anthemic alt-rock, New York’s Split From The Mind emerges with a powerhouse debut. Drawing inspiration from heavyweights like TOOL, Nine Inch Nails, and Audioslave, his self-titled EP channels that raw, high-intensity energy while injecting it with a fresh, modern edge. Resulting in a collection of tracks that feel both nostalgic and forward-thinking, brimming with dynamic shifts and a fearless approach to storytelling.
From the opening moments of ‘Patterns Of..’, it’s clear that Split From The Mind has carved out a space for himself in the realm of progressive rock. Echoing the haunting, cerebral presence of the giants in the game, the track builds with a slow-burning intensity before erupting into something massive. Elsewhere, ‘Power Is..’Falling..’ offers a biting delivery with a darker, more brooding undercurrent. And just when you think you have a grip on his sonic world, ‘A Beat in the Dark..’ introduces a more introspective, atmospheric side that leaves a lingering impact.
For a first release, ‘Split From The Mind’ is an audacious statement. The EP showcases a deep understanding of the genre’s foundations while refusing to be confined by them. With each track revealing another facet of his artistry, it’s clear that this is just the beginning. If this debut is anything to go by, Split From The Mind is an artist with plenty more to say, and an arsenal of boundary-pushing ideas to back it up.
