REVIEW: Teenbird – ‘Road Trip Songs’
Ever since they first emerged, fast-rising outfit Teenbird have always been ones to adopt some of the more raucous elements of the classic rock sound. Bringing together broad and euphoric hooks with a lively approach to production, their 2022 studio album ‘First Flight’ cemented them as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now. And with a new era dawning, they are now looking to pay homage to those that have inspired their sound with their latest EP ‘Road Trip Songs’, a collection of familiar anthems revamped through their own lens.
Fans of classic rock will undoubtably recognise every track on this new release. Starting off with their thunderous take on Steppenwolf’s ‘Born To Be Wild’, the new six-collection also sees the band try their hand at iconic releases from The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Van Halen and more. And while these tracks all hold a special place in our hearts, Teenbird do them with complete justice as they rebrand them for a modern ear. Adding a dose of heady grooves and passionate energy throughout, the title ‘Road Trip Songs’ certainly gives us exactly what it promises.
While Teenbird have only been doing this a few years now, ‘Road Trip Songs’ comes across as a fully fleshed-out array of delights that look to broaden their musical horizons throughout. Merging these familiar releases with their own distinctive direction shows that they are brimming with ingenuity, something we can’t wait to hear more of in the months ahead as well.
