REVIEW: The Violet Breaks – ‘Triple Volt’
After building momentum with the widely praised singles ‘Mercury’ and ‘The King’, Dublin indie-rock outfit The Violet Breaks now make their mark with their debut album ‘Triple Volt’. Fuelled by sharp guitar work and infectious melodies, the album captures the raw energy and introspective storytelling that have earned the band national airplay and key support from Spotify Editorial playlists like An Alternative Ireland and Fresh Finds.
Taking its name from the three separate recording sessions that shaped it, ‘Triple Volt’ is the product of two years of balancing creative ambition with the realities of everyday life. Writing and recording between Dublin and Berlin, the band—Eoghan O’Neill, Shay Ferris, Jonny Byrne, and Kevin Gallagher—poured everything into making a record that feels both deeply personal and universally passionate. Themes of love, resilience, and the unpredictable nature of life run throughout, giving the album a dynamic emotional core.
Opening up with the truly euphoric ‘Phantasm’, the band are quick to find their feet across this new release. While the previously shared offerings ‘Haradashi’ and ‘The King’ certainly plays their part as the stadium-ready anthems they are known for, focus track ‘Lux’ perfectly encapsulates the record’s spirit, bursting forward with driving guitars, rapid-fire lyricism, and a vibrant quality reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys. Recorded across multiple sessions, producer Matze Heising played a crucial role in refining the album’s sonic identity, helping shape the band’s high-energy sound into something both polished and raw.
To mark the release, The Violet Breaks will take over The Workman’s Club in Dublin for a special launch show, celebrating a record that has been years in the making. Fans can also get their hands on a limited 12” vinyl edition, available for pre-order now. With ‘Triple Volt’, The Violet Breaks prove that great indie-rock is still alive and kicking, ready to carve its own space on the international stage.
