Rosellas chase the light on expansive and emotional new EP ‘Every Beautiful Night’

Manchester’s Rosellas have spent the last few years building momentum the old-fashioned way; onstage, on the road, and in the studio, and it shows. With their new EP ‘Every Beautiful Night’, the alt-rock four-piece deliver a statement of intent that blends widescreen sonic ambition with personal, poetic lyricism. It’s their most confident and cohesive work to date, and it feels like the start of something bigger.

Opening track ‘Surrounded By the Light’ bursts out like sunrise over rooftops, shimmering with layered guitars and a vocal that rides the line between celebration and salvation. It’s a song about being rescued (perhaps by love, perhaps by hope) and Rosellas set the tone here with a sound that echoes The War On Drugs’ panoramic rock, but feels distinctly Northern in its heart.

From there, ‘Every Beautiful Night’ only deepens. ‘Happy Again’ creeps in darker, a slow unraveling of romantic dysfunction and emotional confusion, delivered with a touch of fatalism that recalls early Verve. ‘Get Over Yourself’ flips the lens outward; sarcastic, swaggering, and sharp. It’s the band at their most biting, puncturing egos with playful precision. The tune’s fuzzy propulsion makes it a likely live favorite.

‘Eyes of the World’, born from lockdown malaise, might be the emotional centrepiece. It channels that specific longing of being stuck in place while dreaming of escape. With its anthemic chorus and soaring arrangement, it’s the sound of walls closing in, only to be knocked down by sheer willpower.

The EP closes with the subtly stunning ‘(I’m In Love With A) Songbird’, a departure into something more dreamlike and country-tinged. The guitars sparkle, the tempo drifts, and the lyric captures the wistfulness of loving someone unreachable, someone who seems to float in and out of reality. It’s a gorgeously unhurried finale, and proof Rosellas can do tenderness just as well as they do thunder.

Lyrically, vocalist Drew Selby balances blue-collar melancholy with bursts of romantic idealism. There’s grit here, with reflections on working life, modern disillusionment, and longing. But there’s also clarity, an intentionality in the writing that gives each track its own distinct emotional arc. Whether ruminating on ambition, escape, or connection, Selby writes with the conviction of someone who’s felt every word he sings.

Sonically, the band wears their influences proudly. There are echoes of Sam Fender, The La’s, even touches of The Stone Roses in the rhythmic flow, but they never feel derivative. Guitarist Euan Mail’s knack for melodic layering brings colour and depth to every track, while drummer Mark Zanker and bassist Ollie Appleby hold it all down with an urgency that keeps things moving forward, never floating too far into the ether.

It’s no surprise that 2025 is shaping up to be Rosellas’ breakout year. They’ve earned it. From sold-out hometown shows to the Isle of Wight Festival, and now an EP launch show for the Official Oasis Fan Club, they’re not just rising, they’re ascending with purpose.

‘Every Beautiful Night’ is a portrait of a band who’ve lived in the noise long enough to carve out their own frequency, one that pulses with honesty, ambition, and the undeniable pull of melody. Rosellas are no longer on the cusp. They’re already flying.
