Showcase Songs Ranked
Showcase is a compilation album by American rock and roll singer Buddy Holly. The album was released as an LP record in both mono and stereo formats in May 1964 (see 1964 in music). Showcase was Buddy Holly’s fourth posthumously released album and the third album to feature previously unreleased material. The original recordings were overdubbed by the Fireballs in 1963. The album was released on CD for the first time in 1992 by Castle Communications in the UK. The second of the posthumously overdubbed albums, Showcase presented a number of rock & roll cover songs performed by Buddy Holly, most of them recorded during his sessions in Nashville in 1956. It was not Holly at his best, though the performances were often spirited. Here are all of the Showcase songs ranked.

12. Blue Suede Shoes
“Awesome compilation of Buddy Holly’s music. I purchased this album in the early 80s on vinyl. It sounded good then and it sounds excellent now. Gool ole rock n roll.”
11. Shake, Rattle and Roll
“Showcase is comprised of Buddy’s acoustic demos, Crickets rehearsal tapes, and outtakes. Most of these recordings are completely spoiled by the fact that additional instrumentation has been added by musicians that were obviously having difficulties keeping up with these lo-fi recordings.”
10. Come Back Baby
“I swear if Buddy Holly would have cranked up his guitar amp, he would be punk rock. Seriously. Such a great musician! Buddy Holly was a major influence on Rock & Roll. You can hear his influence in early Beatle music and in others. His death is immortalized in “American Pie” as the day the music died.”
9. Rock Around With Ollie Vee
“I love Buddy Holly, and I was far too lazy to transfer music from my external hard drive to my phone. So I bought this because it had a few of the songs I wanted to hear that I was listening to on vinyl before I was about to leave home.”

8. Rip It Up
“If you don’t know Buddy Holly’s music, you really should familiarize yourself with it. Bottom line: it is masterful and definitive early rock n’ roll. This album offers a fantastic way of getting to know some of the very best music that came from this amazing musician.”
7. Honky Tonk
“I was at that perfect age when Buddy Holly came on the scene. Every song he sung was just about perfect. There was nothing better than cruising around in the car with Buddy blasting on the radio. “
6. Love’s Made a Fool of You
“Buddy Holly is one of my favorites. I love listening to his music. Please be advised that I cannot rate the things I gave to people as gifts. All I can tell you is that I haven’t gotten any complaints.”

5. I Guess I Was Just a Fool
“If you compare the basics of this music to today’s generation you can definitely see what started our rock musicians on the path they have take. Buddy Holly clearly made the path way for our generation.
4. Gone
“Like Jimi Hendrix a few generations later, Holly has been the subject of interminable speculation on the might-have-done, to the point where what he DID done almost gets shoved to the side. But I did say “almost”. Holly’s one of the legitimate music phenomena of the 20th Century, in the sense that no one except perhaps a deaf person can say they haven’t heard him at least once.”
3. Ummm, Oh Yeah
“I have no doubt that if Buddy had been granted a full lifetime, he would have continued to record even more classics like the ones on this CD, but he didn’t. In a way, Buddy has become immortal, because his life story has been so well documented – through books, movies, and the stage show “Buddy”, which unsurprisingly (to me at least) has been a hit on three continents, and of course, his music.”
2. Girl on My Mind
“I have to say this is one of the best albums I’ve ever bought. I’m a teenage girl, and I love this music. While these songs may be old, they’ll never go out of style. Buddy’s voice is amazing on all of these songs, the instrumentals are perfect, and this is one of the best albums you will ever buy.”
1. You’re the One
“Holly is considered a rock and roll pioneer, but the musical palette on this CD also contains, to my ear at least, elements of country and big band style. Holly’s talent is simply too expansive to pigeonhole.”
