Slung release new single ‘Collider’ ahead of debut album ‘In Ways’

Brighton’s rising rock band Slung have unveiled their new single ‘Collider’, a hypnotic and bass-heavy track that showcases vocalist Katie Oldham’s masterful storytelling. Originally developed by bassist Vlad Matveikov alongside Zac Jackson (El Moono), the song’s ominous instrumental pulses beneath Oldham’s ethereal vocals, drawing listeners into its shadowy world.

“I kept most of Zac’s melodies as I really like the simplicity and drawn-out syllables,” Oldham explains. “For the lyrics, I came up with a new narrative based on the psych-infused nature of the tune. They tell the story of a cult ruled by a deity they call the ‘ritual prophet,’ communicating with them through psychedelics.”

‘Collider’ is the latest preview of Slung’s debut album ‘In Ways’, which is set for release on May 2nd via Fat Dracula. The band have also announced an extensive UK tour in May to mark the album’s arrival. The record’s first single, the trauma-fuelled, ribcage-rattling ‘Laughter’, kicked off the year with a gut-punch. Speaking on the track, Oldham shares:

“It’s about a face-off that’s been a long time coming—the difficult relationships we have with family, especially parents. As children, we crave our parents’ attention and approval, and when that love isn’t given, the rejection can be agonising. Trying desperately to earn love or consideration from someone who isn’t capable of giving it can be so destructive. That hurt can evolve into resentment, where we later villainise them, wanting to fight, confront, or defeat them.”
