Tarul channels grief and guilt on raw new single ‘Looms’

Houston-born, Bay Area-based multi-instrumentalist Tarul returns with ‘Looms’, a searing shoegaze-grunge fusion and the first single from his upcoming album ‘Whether by nature or nurture, small,’ out later this year.

Built on layers of distorted guitars and drenched in emotional weight, ‘Looms’ confronts the pain of loss and the quiet, persistent guilt that often follows. The song reflects on the death of Tarul’s grandmother in India, a deeply personal moment complicated by distance and regret. “Despite my grief, I didn’t call her nearly enough,” he shares. “That guilt is something I’ve carried, and much of it is self-inflicted.”

‘Looms’ sets the tone for the rest of the record, which explores self-loathing, the struggle to change, and the looming question of whether who we are is shaped more by nature or nurture.
