Taste Albums Ranked
Taste is an Irish rock and blues band formed in 1966. They were founded by songwriter and guitarist Rory Gallagher who left the band in 1970. Taste (originally “The Taste”) was formed in Cork, Ireland, in August 1966 as a trio consisting of Rory Gallagher on guitars and vocals, Eric Kitteringham on bass, and Norman Damery on drums. In their early years Taste toured in Hamburg and Ireland before becoming regulars at Maritime Hotel, an R&B club in Belfast, Northern Ireland in the summer of 1967. In 1996, Richard McCracken and John Wilson reformed the band with guitarist/vocalist Sam Davidson taking over Rory Gallagher’s role as frontman, with Albert Mills replacing McCracken in 2010. The band continued in this formation until February 2017, when it was revealed that the band would tour under the name “Little Taste of Rory feat. John Wilson”, and that the line-up now consisted of Wilson, Davidson, and new bassist Alan Niblock. In 2018 John Wilson retired from the band due to ill health but Sam Davidson continues to perform as “Sam Davidson’s TASTE” with Albert Mills back on bass and Lyn McMullan taking over from Wilson on drums. Here are all of the Taste albums ranked.

4. Live At The Isle Of Wight (1971)
“Rory Gallagher later went solo but recorded 2 albums at the start of his career with ” Taste” recording ” on the boards ” and this live album from the Isle of whight music festival.in 1970. I used to have this album on vinyl when it came, out, I lost so much of my vinyl but here have it on CD format, and despite only a handful of songs on it, theres still that amazing live feel and that energy today from this album. “Catfish ” goes on forever, I prefer the rockier songs like ” What’s going on ” For Rory this offering was stepping stone to his solo career, But this is a must from a great band.”
3. Live Taste (1971)
“As they did so many times before,”taste” did not disappoint this time as well.a truly remarkable preformence of this powerful trio, this time recorded live in a swiss casino.gallagherr’s guitar as usuall is stunning and razor sharp, along side with the heavy support from Mcracken(bass)and Wilson(drums),playing their usual set(including “gambling blues”)apparently in their last concert together.but watch out, here comes the catch:and it is necessary to ask:who remasterd this cd’? the sound here is so bad, disturbed frequency by background noises.it is almost unbearable to listen to it.you will have to raise the volume on your stereo real high in order to enjoy this one.for “taste” die hard fans only.for your own good get the digitally remastred version instead.Still after all it leaves a taste for more.”
2. On The Boards (1970)
“While ‘On the Boards’ is a very different album compared to the debut Taste album it is still a superb album by the Irish power trio. Here the two longer cuts are a bit more experimental, almost jazzy compositions with less a guitar influence. Nonetheless, Rory’s guitar prowess shines on the shorter compositions and he is simply sizzling! This album took me forever to track down and purchase back in the 70’s as a lot of stuff was simply hard to find. I was awfully glad to get it once again from Amazon! Check it out, you’ll like it too! Nobody does music like this anymore!”
1. Taste (1969)
“This album is one of the rawest albums I have ever heard. Every song is great on this debut my favorite though is Sugar Mama this song blew me away when I first heard it. Rory Gallaghers guitar playing is amazing even on this first album. Rory never fails to amaze me on every album I have ever heard from him.”
