10. Echo (Echo [From “Solo Leveling” (Original Soundtrack)], 2022)
“It’s funny that all these aggro Kpop songs have gorgeous pre-choruses that speak to K-pop’s incredible melodic songwriting. Unleash the melodies and make that the whole song! That being said, the pre-chorus and bridge are the only standouts for me here. I love that the pre-chorus speeds up the bass to build excitement instead of relying on percussion. It feels fresh.”
9. Maverick (Maverick, 2021)
“I don’t like how the chorus sounds similar to the one in EPEX’s debut but I loved it. It’s just up my alley and because I loved The Stealer so much I just automaticaly loved this song as well. I LOVE IT. I had a great time listening to it”
8. Dancing Till We Drop (Thrill-ing, 2021)
“I don’t always like deep loud bass these days because in this 808 era the bass is loud with heavy reverb just to be loud with heavy reverb. To be That Car. I’ll make an exception for this song, because the bass actually moves around. That moving bass is what makes it sound roller rink ready. It makes you mentally feel like maybe you should try those fancy moves like the people in the middle of the rink are doing. Or at least admire their moves even more.”

7. Thrill Ride (Thrill-ing, 2021)
“Your tolerance of this song depends on how you how much you like the main melodic loop that keeps getting used, because it gets overplayed fast in this song. In some ways if you like this stuff like NCT Dream’s stuff, it will probably work out, but it’s just very repetitive for me.”
6. Drink It (Drink It, 2021)
“This is another impressive track. They’re sort of spiritual winners post-Kingdom because I think overall they gained a ton of exposure from both series and now they’re FREEEEE and poised to focus on what they do best which is coming out with great dynamic pop music.”
5. Breaking Dawn (Breaking Dawn, 2021)
“This song has a lot of potential with those persistent eighth notes, but it completely squanders that by layering a conventional kpop song on top. I’m hearing in my mind Stray Kids “District 9” as reinterpreted by SuperM.”

4. Christmassy! (Christmassy!, 2020)
“This is a nice well done upscale fan service song, dressed up to be festive. Of course it must be a Christmas song not just because the sing the word “Christmas” often enough, but there are the jingle bells and carillon bells. It is featherweight, but if it came on I would not skip it.”
3. Insanity (Chase, 2020)
“This sounds like Shinee / Taemin covering Dua Lipa. Or Dua Lipa covering Shinee. That little descending by half notes hook at the very beginning and again in the chorus is quoted from “Break My Heart” chorus. So of course I like this song because it combines two of my faves, but then again, maybe too much. So in the end, let’s just call it alright. Add a half point extra for being a nice languid, sultry mid-tempo.”
2. The Stealer (Chase, 2020)
“The bass line when it kicks in is reminiscent of Michael Jackson “Bad”. It’s a song that knows what it wants to be, and knows what it wants to do, but only for most of the time. It could have been an NCT-style song, if the chorus “I’m a Stealer” was souped up a bit with more extra. As is, it sounds like a refrain that they don’t quite commit to fully. More Rawrs! More motorcycle sounds! Or something.”
1. D.D.D (Dreamlike, 2019)
“There’s a good chorus and bridge (that instrumental break IS great) but I think the thing the songwriters needed to do with this song is figure out a way to keep the energy up. The way the song drops off before and after the chorus is so frustrating because I think the intention was to make it feel like the song was building towards the chorus, but it spoiled the build of the song as a whole. There are ways to modulate the volume/tempo/etc. while still giving the song forward motion, but instead they settled for what just feels like a reset button.”
