The Last Post makes heartfelt debut with pop-punk single ‘1999’ ahead of Wayfinder EP
After years of writing in the shadows, Central Pennsylvania-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Logan Betz is stepping into the spotlight with his debut EP ‘Wayfinder’, the first release from his solo project The Last Post. Leading the way is the sugary, emotionally-charged single ‘1999’.
“I feel like I finally found my way,” Betz shares. “This record is both the culmination of my journey in music, and the start of my journey. My little teenage heart is super happy I did this—I made up for lost time.”
With ‘Wayfinder’, Betz taps into the golden age of late-’90s and early-2000s emo and pop-punk, while weaving in fresh touches of modern alt-rock and pop. ‘1999’ is a nostalgic rush of high-speed guitars, syrupy harmonies, and plaintive lyricism that captures the giddy chaos of teenage love. Written about the year he met his now-wife, the track is steeped in warm memories of mixtapes, late-night drives, and youthful infatuation.
“It’s filled with nostalgia—both in its personal lyrical content, but also in its sound,” Betz explains. “It’s definitely influenced by the bands and type of music we grew up on, and fell in love listening to.”
