The Pigeon Detectives – ‘TV Show’

After originally breaking through with their much-loved debut LP ‘Wait For Me’ in the latter days of the indie-rock explosion throughout the 00s, The Pigeon Detectives quickly found themselves as one of the more revered names on the scene in those early days. But as the buzz and appeal around the scene began to waver, so did their allure, even though they continued to deliver fun and energetic delights along the way. But after a successful festival run last year, they are looking to capitalise on their newfound appreciation with their sixth studio album ‘TV Show’, a record that looks to revive that initial energy.

Throughout 2022, The Pigeon Detectives made a number of high-profile, post-pandemic festival appearances that saw them not only rekindle some of their original fans but also see the appetite in which the younger generation had for bright and euphoric indie-rock anthems. This became the tone of what ‘TV Show’ set out to become; a release brimming with strong and uplifting efforts that would pay homage to their earlier days, but also suit what the scene had grown into. And while it sometimes lacks much of their formative ideals, there are still plenty of singalong additions scattered throughout this new collection, cementing a confident and assured comeback throughout.

While many other acts in their field have either fallen by the wayside or simply given up on creating anything fresh and exciting, The Pigeon Detectives have managed to reignite much of that original fire they once burned with here. ‘TV Show’ may not be the perfect comeback record, but it shows they still have plenty of life and innovation within them yet.
