4. English Graffiti, 2015
“I liked The Vaccines debut up to a point. It was catchy and had a few good singles but ultimately it didn’t hold up well to close inspection. Album number 3, “English Graffiti” is a far more ambitious and confident record with a more expansive sound. They’ve still got their roots in Indie rock but it’s as much psychedelic rock as indie rock with The Vaccines now resulting in a higher likelihood of the band enduring longevity than I would have thought possible after their debut.”
3. Combat Sports, 2018
“Despite its aggressive title Combat Sports isn’t an outright blatant album, the songs are rather smart and lyrically clever. Rhythmically tunes are prevailingly upbeat but without obtrusiveness. “When your mouth is as big as the Rolling Stones and your self-control is really unknown and you can cut holes into everyone or you can just shoot hoops through the summer sun. I know you paid for the room with a view but got one that pointed at you…” The album is dynamic and the songs are pleasantly contagious.”
2. Come Of Age, 2012
“Definitely not as strong as the debut. First track has a similar feel to the verses of their “hit” “If You Wanna”, but in a slowed-down and almost mocking way. I guess making fun of themselves makes them more interesting, but jeez, hate to break it to ya guys, but I don’t think you’re that band. Luckily, the rest is simple and rather catchy and gets better on repeat listens. Feels lazy, but it’s at least as good as Weezer’s [choose color] album.”
1. What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?, 2011
“The lyrics and most of the tunes are superbly written and the production feels valid for a rock/punk/ (i guess a bit, but not overly much) pop record. There’s nothing complex here musically but it has the right flavour, which means that even, excuse the expression for these guys “amateurs” can make good music, like most unskilled bands can.”
