11. Color Me Once (The Crow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, 1994)
“This song is about a man finding out the realities of life and relationships. You begin life with your arms open to the world, so naive. And when you find out life is cruel you feel as if you have been lied to. Nothing is as it seems. Emotions are like a roller coaster and you wonder what people think about you…especially those you have crushes on. So all you have is patience, because the answers don’t come until these things or people are unimportant to you, and it doesn’t matter anymore. But you gotta go on.”
10. Breakin’ Up (New Times, 1994)
“Every time I hear this song I think of that Beavis and Butthead episode. Anytime there’s a cake and a baseball bat in the same video, the cake’s gunna get it’s ass kicked.”
9. Gone Daddy Gone (Violent Femmes, 1983)
“In my mind the girl that he’s talking about is just a young teenage girl that he is with, he’s older and he’s kind of taking away her innocence. I think maybe it means that she used to be innocent and she loved her daddy in a pure way, but now that love is replaced with the lust that she feels for this guy. The image in my head us a clean, young girl in a “lovely dress” and he takes her and kind of turns her bad.”
8. No Killing (The Blind Leading the Naked, 1986)
“Pretty straightforward. It’s the Milwaukee police because the band is from Milwaukee. (With the exception of Victor DeLorenzo being raised in Racine, which is about 20 minutes south of Milwaukee)”

7. Confessions (Violent Femmes, 1983)
“The whole idea seems to be a miserable person who does not want to hear other people’s misery, being consumed with his own. Which is much more dramatic, and leads to vıolent imagery. This is why the femmes were a classic teen angst band.”
6. American Music (Why Do Birds Sing?, 1991)
“This song is about being strung out on Heroin, and being an outsider. They didn’t like american music. they ain’t never hear american music. music of my soul. i was born too late (Gano was a velvet underground fan, they were a huge influence on the Femmes) he missed out on the ERA when his favorite bands were around and playing, born too late has a similar nostalgia to it. some of the words are just fun lyrics that are just used to be clever or cute in a way.”
5. Add It Up (Violent Femmes, 1983)
“The lyrics to this are so lame sometimes. It’s all “boohoo why can’t I get laid?” The lyrics at the start of “Add It Up” are very very close to being that, verbatim. It’s what Reddit dreams are made of.”

4. Nightmares ( 3, 1989)
“I think he’s calling his dreams nightmares because in them he lives the life he really wants, a life with his ex back. What makes the dreams nightmares is the pain and disappointment he feels when he wakes up and comes back to reality, following with the long bittersweet daydreams of what could have been.”
3. Please Do Not Go (Violent Femmes, 1983)
“The Violent Femmes’ 1983 self-titled debut is one of the most groundbreaking, important, influential, and enjoyable albums ever released, a musical testament that speaks to all dispossessed souls then, now, and probably forever.”
2. Kiss Off (Violent Femmes, 1983)
“I love this song, I can relate so much (with the idea of it being suicide) sometimes i can so feel that way, list the things that bug me most like that,, thats so me, and the violent femmes is one of my favorite bands of all time”
1. Blister in the Sun (The Man Who Loved Yngve, 1983)
