AC/DC Songs Ranked

AC/DC are an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Their music has been variously described as hard rock, blues rock, and heavy metal; however, the band themselves describe their music as simply “rock and roll”.

AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975. Membership subsequently stabilized around the Young brothers, singer Bon Scott, drummer Phil Rudd, and bass player Mark Evans. Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams in 1977 for the album Powerage. In February 1980, a few months after recording the album Highway to Hell, lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died of acute alcohol poisoning. The group considered disbanding but stayed together, bringing in Brian Johnson as a replacement for Scott. Later that year, the band released their first album with Johnson, Back in Black, which they dedicated to Scott’s memory. The album launched them to new heights of success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. Here are all of AC/DC’s songs ranked.

20. Walk All Over You (Highway to Hell, 1979)

“Clearly one of ac/dc’s best, and most underrated songs. I remember buying highway to hell from a record store when I was a kid and when it hit this song, I played it about 5 more times before I moved on.”

19. High Voltage (High Voltage, 1976)

“This is classic acca dacca. I love Brian Johnson but Bon Scott is a legend and this tune just rocks. Its got its roots in Chuck Berry and it adds a snarling twist. Its brittle opening chords and cool groove just can’t fail to get the party rocking. The vocals are quiet in the mix and its production is so creative. This needs to go up in the ratings.”

18. Moneytalks (The Razors Edge, 1990)

“Very underrated. The vocals and its contrast with the guitar part is amazing. It’s so catchy and the guitar solos are cool. Not their best song, but it should at least be in the top ten.”

17. If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It) (If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It), 1978)

“My absolute favorite ACDC song ever. All of their songs are great but this one just gets you pumped up for anything! I always listen to this in my 67 Mustang and have hit 100 more than a few times with this song blaring!”

16. Touch Too Much (Highway to Hell, 1979)

“This is my favorite, although it’s not one of the most famous. This is not so explosive as other AC DC’s songs, but it has a catchy rhythm and a perfect interaction between Angus’s Guitar and Bon Scott’s Vocals.”

15. Jailbreak (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, 1976)

“Part where it goes silent and Bon goes “with a bullet in his back! ” and then they go back into the chorus is just magical. I like the sounds they make with the guitars (Sirens, Gunshots etc.)”

14. Rock ‘N’ Roll Train (Black Ice, 2008)

“The guitar riffs makes you dance the hell out of you. It is on board with back in black and thunderstruck. One of best ACDC songs! You simply enjoy every second of the song and it never gets boring!”

13. Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution (Back in Black, 1980)

“This song is simply one of the greatest classics ever made.. So low down the order just doesn’t do justice to this awesome song! This is an amazing song, by any standard. Sure, there are songs like Thunderstruck, but this is just a classic”

12. Let There Be Rock (Let There Be Rock, 1977)

“Love that relentless driving beat. It starts out hard and fast and keeps it up! It’s like a marathon, don’t they ever get tired? And Angus has an amazing solo, again, he’s like the energizer bunny! When they were elected into rock n roll hall of fame this was the song Brian Johnson integrated into his speech. Enough said… Let there be rock! Rules!”

11. Whole Lotta Rosie (Let There Be Rock, 1977)

“Best solo ever! Great song and preformed live one of the greatest songs to be made from the album Let There Be Rock. If you haven’t heard this song than go search this on you tube you’ll listen to it over and over again Angus plays the solo like his life depends on it and the begging is awesome also!”

10. It’s a Long Way to the Top (T.N.T., 1975)

“This just epitomizes what AC/DC is! This is the greatest Rock n’ Roll anthem ever by the greatest band to ever play Rock n’ Roll anthems and what other band could ever do a call and answer between a bagpipe and guitar? In a 1000 years when our decedents dig up our artifacts they will find this song and go, “this is the music that shaped their being!”

9. For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) (Those About to Rock, 1981)

“The cannons mixed with the immense talent from the band just make this something else. I have always thought that this song is to ACDC, what songs such as Paradise city were to Guns and Roses and even Slash now, it is a song that really gets the crowd going and gives you an absolute rush. “

8. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, 1976)

“Bon Scott will never be equaled and this tune is the epitome of classic ACDC. You immediately get hooked by the opening guitar chords… This song makes me want to host an entire race to trick people into finding pieces of Jesus and then be shot by a paraplegic’s nfinitely spinning fingernail so I fizzle out of existence across the multiverse.”

7. Shoot to Thrill (Back in Black, 1980)

“To me, Shoot To Thrill is AC/DC’s most progressive song. Cliff Williams’ bass playing is off the charts, especially live. When you hear how he plays the bass in this song, (similar to his progressive band roots, prior to AC/DC) you can really appreciate how he was willing to pull back and make the song more important than the bass riff. Well done, Cliff! You can’t help but stand and clap to Angus’ guitar tapping in the middle of the song. With Brian Johnson’s unbelievable vocals, this song may be top ten of any song, ever!”

6. You Shook Me All Night Long (Back in Black, 1980)

“It is such an inspiring song and has been put in so many action movies such as Iron man. It has this head bangging sound that really brings back the 1970’s. It’s not know to many because “Back In Black” was more popular but if they played this song on the radio I guarantee that AC/DC will be back hitting the charts better than ever”

5. Hells Bells (Back in Black, 1980)

“The intro alone makes this my favorite AC/DC song. Combining the dark guitar riffs with the echoing chimes of bells that ring eerily really signals the atmosphere and overall tone of this amazing song.”

4. T.N.T. (Back in Black, 1980)

“This is the song that got me into ac/dc as well! This song kicks ass! Lock up your daughter and lock up your wife lock up your back door and room for your life! The man is back in town so don’t you mess me round!”

3. Highway to Hell (Highway to Hell, 1979)

“I go nuts whenever this song comes on the radio! You hear that guitar intro and you instantly think “TIME TO ROCK OUT! ” There is literally no limit guitar abilities of Angus Young! These rock legends changed my life and they did it with this song.”

2. Thunderstruck (The Razors Edge, 1990)

“Thunderstruck is what I will and always will call a song it is a extremely well thought guitar riff and is amazing the way it is played I will treasure this song forever and will always love it.”

1. Back In Black (Back In Black, 1980)

“AC/DC has awesome songs, but Back in Black is easily the greatest! Even people who don’t like AC/DC can enjoy this song! Second best selling album ever, with greats like shake a leg, shoot to thrill, hells bells, giving the dog a bone! I have to say AC/DC certainly made a mark on rock and roll history with this song and the whole album in general!”
