Almost Famous Songs Ranked
Almost Famous is a 2000 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Cameron Crowe, and starring Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, Kate Hudson and Patrick Fugit. It tells the story of a teenage journalist writing for Rolling Stone in the early 1970s, his touring with the fictitious rock band Stillwater, and his efforts to get his first cover story published. The film is semi-autobiographical, as Crowe himself was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone. The film received widespread acclaim from critics and received four Academy Award nominations, including a win for Best Original Screenplay. It was also awarded the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. Roger Ebert hailed it the best film of the year as well as the ninth-best film of the 2000s. It also won two Golden Globe Awards, for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture (Hudson). In a 2016 international poll conducted by BBC, Almost Famous was ranked the 79th greatest film since 2000. In a Hollywood Reporter 2014 list voted on by “studio chiefs, Oscar winners and TV royalty”, Almost Famous was ranked the 71st greatest film of all time. A stage musical adaptation of the film is set to open on Broadway in September 2022. Here are all of Almost Famous songs ranked.

5. That’s the Way – Led Zeppelin
“Such a lovely song. To me this is one of the most profound meanings found in a Zeppelin song. “That’s the way it’s got to be”, it’s just so accepting of life and every trial and tribulation that comes with it, Plants lyrical prowess at its best.”
4. Fever Dog – Stillwater
“One of the greatest movies ever made and fever dog is such a killer tune. I wish Stillwater were a real band. Glad I saw the movie Almost Famous where this scene was featured,I like all the songs in the movie.”
3. America – Simon and Garfunkel
“This movie has so much detail. I absolutely love the scene where William is going through the records and he’s touching the faces and words on the albums. In my opinion, it represents his youth and how innocent he is to rock music compared to the very next scene after he plays the The Who record, he’s doodling all those bands. That scene represents his total obliviousness to rock n roll compared to who he is when he meets Penny Lane.”
2. Simple Man – Lynyrd Skynyrd
“I am a crazy music buff, and that movie is my second favourite movie in the entire world. I was planning on doing an homage to it, still am going to at some point, but your video was so great I’ve got a lot to…I don’t want to use the word “compete”, because that’s obviously not why I would make it, but I guess big shoes to fill maybe? Anyway, awesome tribute to the movie and LOVE the song choice.”
1. Tiny Dancer – Elton John
“Despite of its popularity its one of the most underrated movies in history… I mean it’s just amazing. Especially this scene. This scene has an amazing vibe and it makes me so emotional.”
